Question about Dell Computers & Internet

I have s dell studio 15 laptop. i got a dell conexant rd02-d400 modem so i could use dial up with it. now i get errors that say it can't connect, but that everything os ok.. error 692 and 618 (i think) popped up.. how can i fix this? will re-installing the modem/drivers fix it?

Hello,

Connect your modem to the phone line and test the modem.

Control Panel-->>Phones and Modems. Click icon. Tab Modem. Highlight your modem, and Click Properties--->>Diagnostics. Verify that everything is OK.

Then Start --->>All Programs -->>Accessories-->> Comunications ---Hyperterminal.

Enter a name for a bogus connection, Click OK
Enter your phone number and dial it. If Phone/Modem connection is OK, you shoul hear the busy signal.
Alternative:Run the Dell diagnostics.

If Modem connection is correct you must then create a dialup connection.

If a capacitor fails electronically it generally takes something with it. It looks like it was intermittent fo a while and probably introduced surges into the device....Give it up and get a new one for your piece of mind!

to find the right driver for your machine ...when you got to dell support site...type in your service tag number that will found under you laptop. here is the link where you can down load the modem driver.

HP Notebook has just had XP reinstaled. I cannot get modem hooked


The reinstallation probably doesnt use the commponents or support it.

Do you have access to another laptop that you could test the new modem in? Sounds to me like the new one maybe faulty :(

Try uninstalling the old one whilst its in via device manager then shut down and put new one in. If it doesnt detect it then its faulty.
