I would first try to play an audio cd (should automatically play after you put it in the drive, if not press enter after 30 secs)

1.no audio, try to re-install windows/or repair
2.yes to audio, hook up another monitor if desktop...hook up external monitor if lap top.

if you have a laptop, and it needs replaced, there are several d.y.i. tutorials on youtube.com

hope it helps!

My asus m50sv notebook's screen wont turn on. I turn it on as usual and you can here it boot up and something inside starts running but the screen will stay black, all lights like the on button, wifi,...

Big chance that Graphic Card, integrated into motherboard failed. I would suggest to take out Hard Drive and RAM and then try to turn it on. If it still shows nothing - best bet that motherboard gone bad.

My comp starts up but does nothing more apart fromfans running dont hear any beaps like it used to and nothing boots up can u help could u hazzard a guess many thanks greg

hard drive has fatal error or motherbaord is gone.
Have you recently had any viruses?
If you have the recovery discs this is going to be your only hope.
Turn off comp. turn on and insert dic.
continuously pressF11 to enter bios.
choose to boot form cd/dvd rom
this will start the repair process.
This will reinstall the original operating system, and all drivers that were originally on your system.
CAUTION!!! This will also erase all programs and file you have installed/ downloaded onto your system so be sure to back up anything you dont want to be gone forever.
Good Luck

Aspire 5920 will not switch on.

It's more than likely a cpu / motherboard issue, but you should try:

reseatting / swapping the memory

booting without the cd, hard drive, battery plugged in.

Most of the time I see that problem when the motherboard has gone out.

Is my averatec laptop motherboard died?

tony,
try to shine a flashlight at the screen while it boots and see if you see anything at all. if you do, your backlight has gone out and you will need to replace the lcd screen. if you get nothing try plugging in an external monitor to the port on the side of the laptop, if you get something on it, then you need the lcd replaced. if you get no beeps indicating failed hardware then there is a good chance that your motherboard has a more serious issue if no screens are coming up.

No boot

Sounds like the motherboard is getting power to the lights but not to the rest of the computer. try to drain all the power out of the laptop by unplugging it and holding the power button for 30 seconds. Then plug it back in and try again if this does not fix it your motherboard is probably shot and would need replaced.

The power somes on,but nothing else comes on

If the screen is blank remove the battery and the power cord. Wait a minute and plug in the power cord and try it. If it works you can put the battery back in. If it still fails it's probably a bad motherboard.
