Question about Cell Phones

Hi, I have a sim card with many contacts i need on it and I managed to enter incorrect security codes multiple times until the phone displayed "sim card rejected". How can i retrieve the data on my sim now - surely, the phone does not automatically erase the data stored on the sim?

    Hi Ekse,
thx for your reply. I do have the PUK code from the service provider but it is no longer helpful since the SIM card is rejected (whatever that means). Presumably, the card has a security feature which locks once one enters too many attempts of unlocking the card. I want to get around that lock and find access to my data - have u heard of any way how to do this? y service provider claims once the SIM card is rejected that is it for the SIOM and the data on it but it seems a little unlikely....

  • ralf01 Sep 12, 2009

So it appears that the service provider is basically right in their advise. I understand that your advise is based on your vast experience and i am very pleased with your feedback. I have a feeling that my data is lost for good but want to get a back up on this in form of a second opinion. Thank you very much for your assistance....
    cheers

Sim card rejected on phone display. Entered the PUK code one too many times incorrectly. Have a new SIM card now but much of my data has been stored on my old card and I am very keen to retrieve it somehow.
    Any proven workable suggestions....

    Hi there,
i think i have to learn to live with the fact that i ve lost my data indefinately.
Will call my provider now to activate the back up facility in case they offer this service. Thank you for your feedback.

No the phone does not erase it. Check with your service provider whether they have phone book facility for your sim.Tat means they will have a back up of your contacts of the sim. If theyb donot have no way we can retrive it. Even i lost all my contacts once now using that phone book back up facility.

You probably entered the pin code wrong 3 times, so now you need to call your phone service provider of that sim card to get the puk code to unlock the sim card, you won't loose any contents from the sim card.

you can buy a reader like this one http://www.dekart.com/products/hardware/sim_card_reader/

and get your contacts etc backed up on your computer so if it ever gets stolen or stops working you can insert the new sim card into the reader / writer and insert the contacts back and save a ton of time if you have more than 100 people on the contacts.

try the usb sim card reader, yes the card kills itself if you attempt to enter puk code wrong too many times, and then there is no way to recover, the usb sim card reader might be usefull, you might be able to find a sim card recovery software from somewhere, never tried one, and I don't really think that it would work but would be intresting to try and find out.

  • Ekse Sep 12, 2009

go ahead, but do come back and accept the solution if noting better is offered.

  • Ekse Sep 12, 2009

you know on the first link i posted to the sim card reader, it does say sim card recovery?¨¨

so this may be possible, I will go get one of these readers on monday and try it out.

I have Nokia 5230.I tried to give security code but its displayed the SIM is rejected.

Hi,
The possible reasons for SIM CRASH may be one of the following:
•The SIM card is out of alignment. If the phone has recently been dropped, bumped, or opened, the SIM card may need adjusting. Follow the SIM card installation instructions in your user guide.
•The PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) code is entered incorrectly multiple times. This can inactivate the SIM card. If inactivation appears to be permanent, contact your operator or service provider for a new SIM card.
•You have recently changed service providers. In this case, either your SIM card or your phone may be configured for your previous operator and may require reconfiguring. It may also be that your phone is configured so that it cannot be used with a SIM card from a different operator or service provider. Please contact your current operator or service provider for assistance.
If none of the situations above apply and you continue to receive this error message, your SIM card may be damaged. Please contact your operator or service provider.
Thanks and have a nice day.

HAI SIR I AM NAGESWARA RAO 9848952263 my phone is blocked and idea subscriber...Hi PUK code is called as PERSONNAL UNBLOCKING KEY. Your phone will ask for PUK code when you entered the PIN code wrongly...

Hi rams1989ind ,

All you need to do , is contact your Idea helpline , go through a security check of your personal identity and ask them for the PUK number and they should give it to you.

In case they are unable to give it to you on the phone then you can visit the nearest idea gallery and get the PUK number.

Remember Entering PUK number incorrectly for multiple times, will eventually get your sim blocked and then you will need to buy a new sim card.

Hope this helps...:) Your feedback would be appreciated.

Please do help me in this i want to recover my sim because its puk is blocked can u tell me any way how to rcover it?

Hi there, i suggest you please contact your service provider for the PUK CODE. PUK code is protect your sim card. For more details please read the below topic. Its much clear to you.
1. My phone is requesting a PIN/PIN2/PUK/PUK2 code.
Your phone is equipped with one or more codes to protect it against unauthorised use. The PIN and PUK codes actually protect the SIM card, a small card inside your phone that establishes the network connection.
In most cases, your operator or service provider is the best source of assistance with PIN and PUK codes.
  • The most common code is the PIN (Personal Identification Number) code, which you set yourself and can activate and inactivate by following the instructions in your user guide.
  • The PIN2 code is a PIN code which acts as a second layer of protection for certain features of your phone. It functions in the same way as the PIN code, and more information is available in your user guide.
  • If the PIN code is entered incorrectly multiple times, your phone may request a PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) code. The PUK code is an 8-digit code provided by your operator or service provider.
  • If the PIN2 code is entered incorrectly multiple times, your phone may request a PUK2 code.
Please contact your operator or service provider for assistance with your PIN and/or PUK codes. If you have already contacted your service provider and the code provided did not work, you will have to obtain a new SIM card from your operator or service provider.

2. My phone is requesting a security code.
Your phone is equipped with one or more codes to protect it against unauthorised use. Please note that the security code, which protects the phone itself, differs from the PIN code, which protects the SIM card.
If your phone is prompting you for a security code and you have not activated one, please try the following:
  • Enter the default security code: 12345. Only try this once.
If your phone still requests a security code, please bring it to the nearest Nokia care point for inspection. You can find care point addresses from the drop-down menu at the bottom of Repair.
Please note:
  • Some operators configure phones so that they only work with their brands' SIM cards. In this case, if you enter the wrong code three or more consecutive times, the phone may lock permanently. If this happens, contact your operator or service provider for assistance.
  • In other cases when you enter the wrong code three or more consecutive times, the phone switches to a "sleep mode" and does not accept any entries for the next 15 minutes. In this case, power the phone off, then back on, let it sit idle or untouched for 15 minutes, then try again or bring it to a Nokia Care point.
