Question about Mitsubishi VS-50603 50" Rear Projection Television
I want to take all the internal components out of my Mitsubishi VS-50603, but I heard there is a potential for electrocution, as there is a part in the TV that holds a charge even when not plugged in. Was wondering if this is true or not?
Yes, it is possible!
Your set has three picture tubes, also known as CRT's, when the set is on there is aprox 30,000 volts going to the CRT's usually on large red wires that come from a common point. The CRT's can store a charge, the manufactures do put some circuits in that should drain that voltage away but if the set had a problem it may not happen.
Also, the CRT's are sealed in a vacume so if they are hit the wrong way can implode, all the glass gets sucked in toward the middle then flys outward. Another concern is inside the CRTs is a phospher coating, not good for you.
