Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Our Kenmore EVL165NXRQ03 fridge/freezer (single unit with either freezer or fridge) never gets below 54 degrees and hasn't since installed gotten below 50 degrees. Could it be in demo mode ande if so how do I get it operating? We had one power interruption for 3 days coupla years ago and I don't know whether that affected it or not. Lights work and sometimes hear compressor motor come on but never really cold.

How old is your refrigerator? Old enough for lint and dust to have accumulated around the bottom fan and coils?

Dirty coils can cause a multitude of problems and even give the appearance of a failing unit. Try cleaning the coils with a brush and vacuum as thoroughly as you can and be sure the bottom fan is running to pull air over them. It's a 'free' fix and you'd be surprised at how often such a simple 'repair' is all there was wrong with a refrigerant unit.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

Control board has gone bad....

What happens is the defrost is controlled electronically from a circuit board, when this goes bad, the freezer quits defrosting, and freezes the fans that circulate air through the fridge side of things.

To check this, unplug the entire fridge, leave the freezer open, wait for it to defrost a bit, if this causes the fridge to start cooling again when you plug it back in, then its the defrost. You should also see ice crystals on the back of the freezer just under the icemaker.

Kenmore fridge and freezer not cooling

Check to see if there is any ice built up on the back wall of the freezer. If so thaw the ice and take the back wall out of the freezer. next check to see if the fan is running in the freezer (evaporator fan) This fan is what circulates the air from the freezer to the fridge. If it does run then you have a defrost problem (if ice is on the coils and back wall). Then replace defrost timer, heater, and thermostat.
