The manual says that when the bulb is burned out both the poewer and the staus light turn red.

My projector is only a few months old. It did not make a pop or small explosion. It simply refused to light the lamp when I tried to turn it on this afternoon. I immediately thought that the bulb had burned out prematurely but the manual says that both the staus and the power lights glow red when that happens. This is not the case with my projector. I have a steady red power ligth and a blincking green status light. The manual says I should press the Power button when the green light stops blinking. I have done this and it just repeats but does not light the lamp.

I have ordered a new bulb. I don't know if that is the problem but I figure I can use a spare.

I woulkd like an "expert" who at least bothered to read what I wrote.

I did state how old it is - about four months. I run it on low, At that illumination it is supposed to last 3000 hours. Naturally at first I feared that the bulb had blown but since it is it is such a new unit and the indicator lights did not show a blown bulb, I wondered if it might be something else. So I paided for the opinions go "experts". That's a mistake I won't make again.

You have a problem in your "switching power supply" circuitry you will need to troubleshoot this circuitry to find the reason, its shutting down to protect the rest of the unit from further damage from over voltage and/or current

You don't specify how old this unit is, or how long it's been working fine. Lamps have a finite life span, measured in the hundreds of hours. It sounds as though you may need to replace the lamp. Look up your user's manual for instructions on how to replace it.
Good luck!

Sounds like you have a fault somewhere. Do you ahve the manual to indicate what the fault is. Also how many hours are on the lamp, its possible it needs changing as when it goes out it will not light and promt you to change it or in some models give an error code/fault

It is very likely the projection bulb is burnt out, contact mitsubisihi for a replacement bulb.

Why does my Mitsubishi XD221U projector click and blink red/green on the power light when turned on?

All projectors run a self diagnosis when you press the power button. This does a kind of "pre flight check". If some component isn't working right then the projector won't fire up.

There's no mystery to these status lights. The answer to what they show is written in the manual. Sorry to be blunt, but if you had bothered to read your manual then you would know that red green flashing power light means that the lamp housing cover isn't closed properly. If it is the status light, then it means that the lamp has gone past its due time for replacement. I only know this because I read the bit in the manual just now about the Status Lights.

Replaced bulb yesterday worked fine. Today light will not turn on. projector turns on both lights green for 10 seconds, then power goes red and status blinks green for about 5 seconds, then status light...

green green is power on, normal
then it tries to light the lamp, but it can't so the protection circuit comes activated.
you get red and green blinking

Then it goes to standby, red and off.

so something has happened to the lamp, or lamp ballast power supply.
Take the lamp out and check if all is OK with the 2 terminals in the connector, and the leads to the lamp are intact.

Failing that, I would suspect the ballast lamp power unit

Powers on for only a few seconds

if the power light blinks and the status light is off, check the lamp door. if the power light blinks and the status light is steady red or blinking green, you have a power supply/ballast issue. you may have to send it in for repair. try www.avsolutionsny.com.

Try pressing the HELP button. Don't release and press the power button. The LED lights should blink. Release then try to power on again.
