Question about Cobra XRS-757 Radar Detector

3 Answers

Car problem I have a 2001 Chrysler Voyager mini van, I was driving along at about 60 miles an hour and the instrument gages flipped out bouncing from bottom to top, fuel gage, temperature gage, battery light blinking, oil lite blinking. Now the fuel gage and temperature gage reads in reverse, fuel gage is full, temperature gage reads hot. What happened. Thanks

Re: Car problem

Most likely a short circuit tripped the motors to run in reverse.

I have a 2008 bwm 3 series...When you try to start the car it just clicks & the instrument panel goes crazy!!

This could be a collapsed battery or it could be a crashed vehicle computer. Start by changing the battery. It is much cheaper than the computer.

Do this cobra pick up effective against police radar

No I would not trust that radar at all. The best bang for your buck is any top end BEL electroincs that is all I use and recommned. The Escort is good but not loud enough if you are listening to your radio. I drive 4hr trip at least once a month and drie a sports car for the passed 2 years with no tickets. I do ten over and with my 995 model i get about a 6-8 mile range.

Hope this helps,

Radar goes off all the time, non stop for 80 miles a day for five days. That's how far I drive to work. Oklahoma deep country driving, no cops. I checked the connection and move to other power outlet.,...

The road your driving on may have the drive by wireless system in the road and your detctor picks up it's driving signal. the other answer is can you take it anywher that it's not going off all the time ( a different road) if it's going off no matter where you take it it's malfunctioning and if it's still under wrrentee take it back. seems like you paidalotof money for it but it too cheap to fix.

Calibrating my cobra radar detector

I dont know of any radar detectors that need to be calibrated. To calibrate the radar, you would need a source of RF energy like a radar gun and a ton of specialized equipment.
Just turn it on, place it up high enough on the windshield or dash so that it has a clear "view" of the road. Suction mounts on windshields get the detector higher and it offers you a better view and an earlier warning as it can "see" over the hill better.

I dont understand

That may be because he does not have his radar unit activated. Radar units work by sending out a microwave signal. It bounces off your car and back to the unit. It then calculates the whole distance over time thing and figures out your's more complicated than that, but I don't feel like giving a class...and I'm not a real genius anyway when it comes to physics and whatever other -ics are involved with the science of radar. Point is...radar units have a hold function..kinda like turning that microwave beam on and off...when the officer has the radar on "hold" there is no beam coming out..which means, there is nothing for your radar detector to detect. When he takes it off hold to clock your speed, the magic beam shoots out, bounces off your car, and returns to the unit..then tells the officer your the time your radar detector actually lets you know you're being clocked, Mr. Officer is already turning around to come pull you over. Hence the reason radar detectors are a waste of money...but then again, there are plenty of cops that ride around with the the sending out a signal all day and never actually put it on hold...if a cop is using the radar properly, the radar detector in your car will not help you...but, not everyone does what they are supposed to do, so therefore, it may save you from one or two tickets.
Now, the reason it doesn't alert you when the police are right in front of you is because either the police in front of you; A)do not have a radar, B)do not have their radar on, C)they have it on "hold" and are not transmitting a signal, or D)your radar detector is broken and you need to get it fixed or replaced.

Laser warning - Multiple false alerts

Although the detector could have internal problems, it is possible that it is coming from a real source.
A route I took between home and business triggered mine along the same stretch every time I passed it and after looking a a map and comparing it with the stretch I drove, I found that the Marine airbase at Miramar California was visible (line-of-sight) between two mountains only along that stretch.

Note if the falsing happens at about the same point each time.
I just learned to ignore the laser alarm if it triggered during that 1-2 mile 'window.'

the problem never happens when it's cool or cold
my problem always happens when i turn the unit on, not while already riding/driving out of the blue

i believe the problem might be from the unit getting hot from being in a car, or on a motorcycle, or in a jacket in the hot sun then powering it up while still very hot, some kind of overheat circuit

find a way to cool it off, ride a short distance with it turned off then turn it on or...

also take the 8500 in you right hand and tap it in you left hand 3-5 times, it should start up and be fine. this doesn't have anything to do with temperature but i've had luck with it

good luck
