Blinking Light (Glass XPRESS) - Machine not running...

My machine is now just over two years old and has stopped working - again. I had the motor replaced under warranty about a year ago (but I had to pay the service charge of $128!) and now this malfunction. My machine will not run, it only flashes the Glass EXPRESS light.

I called the Whirlpool 800 Customer Service number and they will not honor their warranty unless I pay for a service call for the problem to be diagnosed by a qualified technician. I'm not sure I want to spend another $128 for a machine of questionable reliability.

I tried the CS suggestion of cutting power for a few minutes to see if the machines internal computer would reset itself, but no luck. Any suggestions?

Unless you use your machine heavily, the problem is probably a timer board. it also could be a door switch. it will not run if it thinks the door is open. and if the fill valve does not function, it will not enter wash cycle as there is no water coming in. most likely timer, but some replacement parts are rebuilds. you could have a failed pump again. its not the pump if the unit does not fill.
in any event, i would invest in a better machine rather than put more into the unit.
note: i am not sure why you paid a service call if the problem was under warranty. ask the mfg about that. the servicer may not be straight with you.
bosch makes a good machine, as does miele. both cost a bit, but don't have issues like cheaper machines. cheap machines are cash cows for servicers. i am not sure what you paid for the whirlpool, but i am fairly certain it was under 1200. something from 900 to 1800 would be a good choice for reliability. that not the most expensive. my commercial unit cost 3800, but does a cycle in 90 seconds. time does equate to money, and you know best how much this unit is costing you to deal with.
good luck

Hi. I have a Bush A126q washing machine, which last night, suddenly stopped working on any programme and with the start/pause light blinking. I have checked the usual suspects, pump filter, too much...

All Machines theses days are digitally controlled, which means they do a self diagnostic test just before they start. If a fault is found they usually just stop with the light blinking. To determine the exact fault the appropriate Engineer for the machine will come along with his laptop and do his test to find where the fault is. However the most likely cause of your problem if the machine is 3 or more years old is the motor brushes. Remove the motor from the machine then remove one of the carbon brushes, if its about 3ml long its worn out.
make sure before removing the motor that the machine is disconnected from the Electrical and water supply, makes it a lot easier.

Check the motor control board for dry joints, poor contact, signs of excessive heat around plugs/pins
I would try new brushes again or thoroughly inspect whether they are contacting the commutator.
I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
I appreciate your vote if you appreciate my reply.

My machine is about 10 years old. it will run and then stop. we push start again and it will run a few minutes and then stop again.

THERE IS TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE IN THAT CONSOLE TO TELL YOU HOW TO DO A SELF TEST. MOST LIKELY YOU WILL END UP WITH AN LR CODE. YOU MAY HAVE A BAD MOTOR CONTROL BOARD.

I have a 40 year old Brother machine. It now runs

Yes, it is the capacitor, or the condenser as you call it has comletely short-circuited electrically bypassing the rheostat, which causes the motor to run at full speed. The cure is simple...cut it out of the circuit. On Singer machines the culprit is usually located inside the foot pedal box...probably on your Brother machine also. They were meant to supress noise from entering into your power line, which causes interference when listening to AM broadcasts, which everyone at the time did. The capacitors themselves will either be in one or two round cans or square flat cans. Simply snip the wires to the capacitor(s) inside the foot controller box and your machine will once again work like normal!

Keeps stopping after 10 seconds of operation

Motor is bad and needs to be replaced. It is drawing too many amps and tripping its overload. Once cool it will run again only to stop. About $100 for the motor.

Not working with wierd symptoms

hi 5 years old ? from the symptoms you have described this is most probably the machines motor brushes are too low/worne as they all do in time this is not too difficult to diy repair if you feel confident ? the brushes in uk cost around £5 --£6 approx and to change them is easy by removing rear cover on machine you muat disconnect power/ drain pipe/ and turn off water supply pipe/s from machine ? the motor is rather like cars alternator in apearance?? disconnect power plug from it then you will have to look at motor and observe how it secures then remove bolts/nuts if you have new brushes to hand ??it will become obviouse how//where they fit and wire connects on each x2 at this it would be advisable after 5 yrs? to fit a new belt too? refit motor+belt adjust belt tension by adjusting motor on slide adjust then tighten? reassemble all parts in reverse then try a wash ? this is common prob especially after long time and for your info the down comforter load was the final nail in coffin but should have no probs after new brushes always think the positive waves! not the negative! good luck

Hello ashankhan,
huuum,happy to assist you!

You said,
I have GE Madellion 870 Washing machine
I guess I have motor problem
motor stops after smoke
Now Motor spins for few second then stops
after 15~ 20 minutes, it will run again for few seconds
if my motor burned then why it still runs for few seconds.

The motor is shot and it still works until it heats up, and then it binds up after it over heats!
