Question about Kenmore 22642 Top Load Washer

Cloths coming out with large tears/holes in the fabric

I am trying to determine if it is my washer or dryer. I find no sharp edges within the units, but once in ten loads or so I will have something ruined due to tearing. Any help?

Carefully check the clothes coming out of the washer before you put them in the dryer, so you can at least narrow the problem down to the washer or the dryer.

Then check back here.

My Maytag washer ripped my clothes. They have holes in them, What could be the cause

If it is a top loader it is the clothes getting pinched at the base of the agitator. Undo the knob on top or the bolt under the fabric conditioner container, lift off the agitator, check underneath, and replace it, making sure it is seated well

If it is a front loader, I had the same problem and it needed a new drum. The ridges around the drum had some sharp bits that were cutting and tearing the clothes as the clothes were sliding over them.

Are you sure that the clothes are not getting caught on exposed zips.

Why not load some things like towels sheets (without zips/buttons etc) in the washer and see if the issue repeats itself. You should also be able to see if there are any sharp edges or loose sharp items in the drum (mind your fingers)

Samsung dryer tearing clothes

I would check to make sure there were not any sharp edges around the opening of the door, or on the door itself. If not then check the whole drum. I would guess there is something the fabric is catching on somewhere, causing it to tear before it eventually comes loose.

Take pantyhose around the inside and see if it catches.

Be carefull not to overload and inspect around door and heat entrance area for catch points or sharp areas.
Its usually Washers that tear clothes inspect closly to determin cut or tear. if tear try smaller loads with only similar materials

If you have granite counter tops then they are ausing it - There is either a small chip in an area where you lean across a lot or your edges are too sharp ( usually with a bevel this happens). I had the same problem for 8 years! Recently put masking tape all the around the edges of my counter tops to test this. No new holes. Just paid a guy to come and smooth down the edges all the way around - expensive but the savings in therapy bills will be worth it- I had been driving myself crazy tring to figure it out and slowly eliminated all other suggestions. I read where one women just started wearing an apron and that solved it for her but I spend too much time in the kitchen for that.

Try the tape - it is a cheap (though not attractive) test. I left it on for a month to be sure. Make sure to check bathroom counters, laundry room ,etc.

Good luck!

Neptune top load holes in clothes

You may have something between your basket (the area where you put your clothes) and your tub (the part that holds all the water in. Check all of the holes in your basket to see if you have something sticking/ protruding out of one of them. You might also have a hole that has been bent casuing a rough edge. Next pull back the edge of your boot (the gray ,rubber part in the front) Do you have any forighn objects in there? Finnaly for the washer, check the bottom of the door. A rough area on the bottom can cause the same problem. You might also want to check your dryer. Over time the seals (the gray rings in the front and back when you look in your dryer can be worn or have a forign object caught in them. Both will cause clothes to snag and tear.

The washer could be developing a transmission problem. As the washer agitates, the plastic tub is suppose to remain still. If the transmission is starting to slip, it will also try to spin during the agitate cycle, thus making the clothes become tangled under the agitator.
