Question about Crosley 0187SST Turntable

1 Answer

Replacement speakers? The speakers in my Crosley CR49 blew out a while back so a friend offered to try to replace them with different ones and soulder them onto the existing connections. However, he never found suitable replacement speakers and has since lost the old (broken) ones. Could anyone offer me any advice on replacing the speakers - what wattage, specific type, etc.? I realize that it would definately be a lot easier to just replace the whole unit (and probably almost equally cost effective) but it was a special present from my mom and I want to fix it if I can. THANKS!!!

My turntable a Crosley CR49 is about 14 years old. It plays just fine, but have to manually reset, clicking the tone arm after every record I play, either 45s or 33 1/3. How Can I fix this?

You will need to get to the underside of the turntable. There you should find that the arm when it gets to the centre of the record it will push on a switch. This switch might be out of position or just get stuck by grease or dirt. Correcting it should solve the problem.

The Needle may need replacing, if after replacing the needle and you have the same problem, it could be a connection from the needle pick up to the recever.

Replacement stylus

It is difficult working upside down to replace a stylus. if you have a small mirror handy, such as a makeup mirror, place it under the cartridge and shine a bright light on the underpart of the cartridge. You may reveal what is preventing the new stylus from seating.

My Crosley CR49-TA won't revolve. It turns on, and

Most turntables are belt driven. Suggest you take a look inside but remember to unplug the deck first. Usually it's a simple case of slipping the belt back on.

Crosley CR6001A: Left speaker barely audible

Hi Eric,

I understand how frustrating this problem can be. The problem can be the result of several different things. Two of them are 1) blown speaker and, 2) blown left amplifier output.

Try listening with stereo headphones. If you can hear both channels clearly, the amplifier is most likely functioning correctly. This is desirable as amp repairs would probably be more costly than a driver (speaker) replacement. Make sure you vary the balance controls while checking for output on both L and R speakers. If the sound is intermittent, the volume or balance control may have dirt built up and may return to working properly by liberally spraying electrical contact cleaner around the stem (knob removed) with the unit unplugged. Use the extension tube to pinpoint the output along the stem. Be careful to keep from over-spraying as it may damage plastic and wood cabinetry. After spraying, rotate the knob fully back and forth several times and then plug back in and try for sound again.

If you can't restore the volume to the left speaker, you may have a blown speaker. This usually happens as a result of excessive volume which leads to distorted sound. If played this way long enough, damage to the speaker is unavoidable.

The speaker can not be fixed - but may be replaced. Replacing the speaker is something most people with conventional hand tools can do - with the unit unplugged. Finding the information on the speaker may prove to require some digging however. You'll need to know the size, wattage rating, impedance value in ohms, and frequency response. It would be best to obtain the exact replacement part if possible.

Other than this, you'll probably need to have it serviced professionally. Good luck!

Crosley turntable CR49

Check if it is still covered under the manufactures warranty, you might be able to send it in and have it fixed. Although, I am not sure if they would ship it back to Dubai. Contact customer support and ask them what are your options.
