The only power strip I have ever trusted has been Monster Power Power Strips, IMO they are the best noise canceling power Strips out there, they are pretty pricy though about 300-500$ for the good ones, but if quality is what you crave then do it up my man, add that with MONSTER HDMI 1000 cables and youll be in heaven on any 1080p 120hz TV

That problem is usually have 2 causes..Its either power supply board or main board..

Please take this steps on how to determine the problem:
1. Open the back cover.
2. Check the power supply output...It should have 5vdc for the main board..12vdc or 16vdc for the audio and 24vdc for the back-light inverter..
3. If those 3 voltage supplies have encountered voltage drop...The problem could be on power supply board..
4. If the power supply output is normal..The problem could be on the main board...
5. If the problem is power supply you should check if the capacitors are bulged on the top and try to replaced it..If you can't do that you can purchased new power supply board..
6. If the problem is on main board there is no D.I.Y repair on that so you need to buy a new main board that fits to your TV..
Hope this solution will be helpful..

Thanks for using fixya...

My vizio E320VL will not turne on and i have not founf any cap the is bad. how can further test it.

Verify that you have 5vdc standby power from the power supply. Second verify that the motherboard is putting out the 3.3-3.5vdc PS_ON signal into the power supply to wake up the 24vdc, 12/15vdc circuits. I guess should also check the fuse on the power supply.

I have a Vizio hdm hdtv. It is a 42 in. The screen is black but there is sound. Can not afford to take it anywhere to be fixed so I would like some ideas on trying to fix it ourselves

Hello,

The power supply converts the 120/230vac 50/60Hz into DC, then the high frequency (50~100kHz) switching circuits convert it back to AC but at high frequency which allows the power supply to use smaller and much lighter weight transformers (Ferrite core instead of heavy iron core), then this high frequency AC voltage is fed to the rectifier Diodes to get the DC output and filtered by DC filter capacitors that must have low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance), if general purpose electrolytic caps are use, they will fail within a year or less due to high ESR.

The power supply has Standby 5vdc (5VSB, this is a MUST have before anything else will work, when this voltage is not present, there will be no any indicator light on the front panel) which is always on the minute the TV is plugged into the AC outlet, so it is on 24/7 and that is why the power supply will fail even though you may use the a TV not very often. It will see all the voltage spikes and surges 24/7.
This 5vdc is used to power the Processor and the Infrared remote receiver module which will be waiting for the command from the remote control or from the power switch, when the Power on command is received, the Processor will send the turn on signal (3.3~5vdc) to the power supply module (PSON pin) to the switch on the main 5vdc for the rest of the logic and Tuner circuits, 12~16vdc for the sound amplifiers (mostly Class D amplifier for efficiency and small size) and for the T-CON board (interface board between the LCD panel, some T-CON uses 5vdc, and the Logic board), and 24vdc for the Back lights inverter board (if there is no 24vdc then no back light).
Common failures:
Blown main AC fuse due to shorted out Diodes, transistors.
Bad capacitors leaking or bulging tops:
Shorted Diodes, transistors in the DC output side.

Hope this will help in solving the problem, and do take care in handling the television, because it contains high voltage

Why does my vizio lcd 47 in tv just suddenly turn off. I will be watching tv and suddenly it just goes off. The vizio power light then blinks steady for about 1 min and then the tv starts up again, as if...

Good day!

Please follow this procedure to fix your problem:
  1. Open the cover of your TV.Remove all screws at the back.
  2. Next, power ON the TV and check the output voltage of power supply using voltmeter.
  3. It should have not less than 5vdc for system board,12vdc for sounds and 24vdc for inverter board. If the 3 supplies are got a voltage drop your power supply had problem. For example if you check the 5vdc then the reading is 4.50vdc only.
  4. If you have voltage drop, check some leak/bulge on top capacitor on power supply.replace it by using soldering iron and soldering pump.
  5. When the power supply looks like OK,no voltage drop and no leak/bulge on top capacitor. The problem is your system board or main board. There's no easy remedy for that. You have to replace the whole system board.
I hope this solution helps you to fix your problem.Thank you and good luck.

Tv won't turn no the vizio logo only blinks

Hi,

That problem is 2 causes, its either power supply or system board.
This are some D.I.Y procedure for troubleshooting.

  1. Open the back cover by removing all screws at the back.
  2. Try to look at the power supply board and find the leak/bulge on top capacitors. If you found, replace it with the same type and ratings.
  3. If the power supply doesn't have any leak capacitors.Try to power it ON to perform voltage checking.
  4. Check the output voltage of power supply such as 5vdc,12vdc and 24vdc by using voltmeter. If this 3 supplies having a voltage drop or flickering voltage while on power ON.Check the following parts on the power supply, change value/open resistor, shorted transistor and diode or repeat step # 2.
  5. When the output voltage is stable and all parts looks OK.The problem could be on system board.Unfortunately the system board or main board is not for D.I.Y because the parts inside is very logic and very sensitive. That is replaceable.

Thank you and good luck.

My vizio gv42l fhdtv 10a picture flickers like a strobe light, on every input. had the tv since 08. inverter board? main board? Thanks Robert

you need to check first the power supply board whether the output supply 12-24vdc for the inverter board is stable and not flactuating..you can measure the output voltage with a multitester..you get a voltage output of 12-24 with the inverter board is connected or loaded to the system.be carefull of the high voltage at the inverter board..once the output is stable replace the inverter board or you can measure the output of the inverter be very carefull..the output range upto 500vac.be carefull..if the high voltage is stable replace the lamps...tnx and good luck..

Power lite is on, no picture showing, not even a blue screen. Could it be a fuse, or something els.

The only fuse I'm aware of would shut down everything if it blew.

If you have moderate electrical skills or know someone who does, check the output voltages on the power supply. You should have 5VDC, 12VDC, and 24VDC. The connectors are conveniently marked so this is easy to check if you have a meter.

If the power supply is bad, contact Vizio support. They can offer the lowest price for a replacement than anyone else I could find when I was looking for one. $82 sure beats the $180 others are charging.

42" Vizio Power supply board output voltage?

The next thing I would check out is the power supply for the screen. Most manufactures call it a Backlight Inverter Board. If a part does go bad on this board, it would also cause the stand by mode or protection mode.
