Unplug it and let it defrost. wile it is defrosting pull the botum front cover off and vacum out all of the acumulated lint off the tub on the bottum. after about 2 -3 hours plug it back in and listen for the fan running on the inside if you feel air coming out of the vents then you should be OK. If no fan replace it.

GE (GTH18IBXWW),Loud noise coming from the top freezer's fan motor

I believe it may be a good idea to unplug the refrigerator. I have seen this happen if doors are left open and causes large areas of ice to form near the fan blade. This can also happen if the fan motor support becomes loose allowing the fan to hit the sides of the housing where the fan centers. I do not recommend leaving it running with out unplugging power and removal of rear wall in freezer because more damage can happen. WR60X10205 Fan Blade

Our refrigerator just suddenly started to make this loud grinding appears to be coming from the freezer side. I turned off the ice make and reduced the freezer temperature but it still keeps...

This could be a failure of the evaporator fan. Also maybe some ice has formed from water dripping from the ice maker and had now produced an icicle which could be hitting the fan blade of the evaporator motor. Remove back cover to the freezer/fan and check the fan operation while it is running.

Ice on refrigerator motor?

The fan in question is the evaporator fan motor and is hitting the ice. The problem is the freezer is not going into defrost due to a faulty defrost thermostat , heater, or timer. You have to call them back out free of charge on there 2nd time out and have them repair it right.

When doors are opened it stops. Ice is forming unnaturally in the

It sounds like you may have a bad evaporator fan motor or broken blade.

Another cause could be a failed defrost system component. The would cause a build up of ice and frost and the fan blade could be coming in contact with the frost or ice.

The fan stops running when the doors are opened on this model to prevent the circulation of warm air.

Freezer fan noise

Remove the freezer panel to access the fan motor. Look for any obstruction around the fan or blade. Ice, misplaced wire etc.
Check the fan blade. Sometimes they slip down the shaft too far.
If you find none of these issues, replace the fan motor.

Ice is forming around fan in back of freezer compartment

The defrost system is not doing it's job. I bet if you took the panel off below the fan you will see more ice on the cooling coils. There should be a light coat of frost on the coils but not a heavy ice build up. There is a heating element at the bottom area of these coils which should be defrosting all this ice.

1. A defrost timer turns this heating element on.

2. The heating element melts the ice.

3. A thermo disc attached to the coils will turn the heater off.

One or more of these are not doing it's job.
