Water only comes out when you have hi humidity
and will only drain after the unit shuts off
the indoor blower motor makes a vaccuum and holds the water in the drain pan

Is the drainage pipe (for continuous operation) the small clear plastic type, or a big garden hose?

Normally, a 48" section of regular garden hose, with the female connection end intact is all that is needed. The hoses female connect attaches to the mail connection on the rear of the unit. It must slope down and remain straight to drain into a floor drain. Proper drainage relies on gravity.

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

What diameter tubing is used with the Delonghi DE 500P pump

George, regular garden hose is what is generally used for continual drainage. Just don't exceed the maximum length of hose, that is listed in your Owners Manual. And, despite what they say about being able to pump water up thru abasement window, it really doesn't work that well. Unless the unit is right below the window,

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

What size of hose or tubing do I use to connect directly to my de humidifier, to drain directly into a drain. Thanks. I have model DDR451

A 48' long piece of garden hose will work fine. Connect the female hose connection to the unit's hose connector and be sure that the hose slopes down and straight to the floor drain. Drainage thru the hose relies entirely on gravity. Be sure to set the humidity extraction level low (32 - 35%) for continual operation.

I hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa..

Basement smells musty, fan won't stay on continuous

Barbara, are you running the unit in a continuous mode (i.e Using a hose to drain the unit)? Or is the water draining into the water collection bucket?

If you are not using a hose for continual drainage, the fan will not run constantly. It requires that, for continual operation.

Also, you may have the humidity extraction level set to high. Lower it to 35%. Also, remove and check the air intake filter, as it may need cleaning.

Dehumidifiers that are not Low Temp models have a difficult time operating in basement applications. Because the air temp at floor level is colder than at shoulder level. At temperatures between 40 & 60 degree F, regular dehumidifiers struggle to keep up. Raising it up off the flow on to a sturdy table, counter top, etc that can handle the weight of the unit, plus a full bucket of water can really help.

I hope this was of assistance and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have a hose hooked up in the back to continually drain water but it isn't working. I have to keep emptying the water. How do I get it to work? And if I take out the plug water leaks everywhere.

The problem you're facing is either a clog in the drain hose or a clog in the hose connector's tubing.

The drain hose is an easy one to insect and clean, if necessary. For the hose connector tubing, you need to do the following.

Turn the unit OFF & Unplug it.

Using an appropriately sized, 18" long, plastic Zip Tie, carefully insert the tip of Zip Tie into the hole or tubing. Continue to push it in until you reach a bend in the tubing. You will need to gingerly work the Zip Tie past this bend, until it either bottoms out or you run out of usable Zip Tie. Then slowly pull the Zip Tie back out while rotating (twisting) it. This will breakup any clogs. As you reach the inserted end of the Zip Tie, be prepared, as some water may follow.Reconnect the drain hose, plug the unit in and turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON. Set the humidity extraction level to 35% or Maximum if you have a manually controlled unit. Allow the unit to run, while you monitor it for drainage thru the hose.

NOTE: If you don't have a Zip Tie, you may use something similar ( i.e.a long pipe cleaner), but NO wire coat hangers

Hope this helped you solve the problem. P;ease let me know. Thanks.

I have a Whirlpool Gold dehumidifier with the hose set up for direct water release into a sink drain. I assumed once you hooked up the manufacturer hose provided it would be a direct drain process and...

I have a similar Whirlpool dehumidifier and a similar problem. Have you tried setting it to continuous mode? My understanding was that it would only divert the drainage to a side hose when in the continuous mode.

Continuous drainage

Take out the drain pan and look in left hand top of the compartment and you will see a drain hole for the pan.Plug the drain hole with a small rubber plug, I used an electrical wire nut wrapped with tape and it worked fine.replace the pan and the water will run out the back. A 3/4" garden hose should work for the drain hole.

Haier 30 pint dehumidifier continuous drain problem.

Many just attach the hose at the reservoir; from your description, Haier apparently has a separate location. Check that the point that the hose attaches has an opening (many don't, they expect you to drill it). It should then drain through gravity. Check to make sure that no part of the drain hose is higher than the bottom of the reservoir, otherwise it can't drain. It won't siphon because each time the the tank empties, the suction is broken and the siphoning can't continue.

Connecting a drain hose

Most units have a drain connection, either on the machine itself, or in the collection pail. These connections usually fit standard garden hoses.
