Re: PDT 6840

By definition the MU gets it's IP address from the DHCP server. If it's getting an address that's already in use, then it's the DHCP servers fault not the MU. I would look at the server and make sure it has enough available IP addresses to go around.

Sounds like your router is not set up for DHCP
try pressing the hard reset (pinhole probably) in the back of your router it should default to DHCP although you may loose your internet connection.
but without knowing your routers local IP address it would be difficult to connect to it to just switch on DHCP

I cannot access ip address from internet explorer (dlink 615) to access the security settings and lock router.

Verify that you are typing in the proper IP address. To do this you must:

1.Open a command prompt window

2. Type "ipconfig /all" without the quotes

3. You will see an IP Adress field. It should read 192.168.0.x or something sililar*

4. The address for the router will then be where x is the rest of the address you see in the field.

*note if your IP address reads "", you have a connectivity issue of some sort. Check your cables/power.

Alow a scanner into the network

When you setup the wireless profile you set the SSID, WEP, IP etc. Which I'm sure you already know. Quite a few people forget the fact that they sometimes need to set a static IP if they do not have a DHCP server. Also if you set the WEP encryption keys incorrect the MC9090 will give you the green signal bar, but you can not get it onto the network, this has confused quite a few people in the past. Now you want to make them persist through either a cold boot or when the terminal has been left without a battery for a substantial amount of time.

This can be done 2 ways. When the profile has been set up highlight it by holding down the stylus on it and from the menu select export. This saves the registry key to the Application folder; a folder which persist through a cold boot. When it does cold boot it takes all the registry keys from the Application folder and builds 1 complete key and thus details of the wireless profile are imported.

The other way is to close the WLAN profile and selection options, from the pull down menu select export and save all profiles. Has a lightly different registry key setting. The bonus about this is if you pull note the registry key file name you can then browse for the key using active sync and copy it to a host PC. You can then copy this key to any other device and cold boot and hey presto your wireless profile appears. You would of course need to change a static IP and export the profile again to overwrite the existing one. If you didn’t export again you would get duplicate IP’s on the network.

The last thing to check is the regulatory options; if you wireless profile is showing a yellow warning triangle this is usually the problem. From the wireless icon in the task bar, select options and then from the pull down select “Regulatory”. Un-tick 802.11d and select the correct country. Then from the pull down select export and export options, this will make them persist through an old boot.

TIP: Always take a not of terminals MAC address and match the serial numbers or specific ID’s. If you do ever get duplicate IP’s you can trace the offending device using the MAC address and the list you create.

Probably not -- looks like corrupt firmware -- it'll have to go to a Symbol/Motorola Dealer for repair.

Hello, I have symbol MC9090-K. I am trying to connect it to the WIFI. The device shows the access point but unable to get an IP address i check the status in IPv4 it shows or it renews for few...

It appears you device can not gain access to you DHCP server to obtain an IP address.

Simple solution would be to assign a static IP and then test.

Do the intermec scanners obtain there IP address's vias DHCP?

If you have a DHCP server on your network then it would have picked up an IP. If you have setup a static IP set try and ping from a workstation on the same network to the device.

I have seen it on numerous occasions where the WEP key is not quite correct and associates with full signal strength, but there is no connectively to the network. Remove the profile and try again.
