Question about Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx GPS Receiver
I just bought this gps unit 4 days ago and it was working fine. I turned it on today and it won't acquire any satellites. It's my understanding that if this occurs some sort of menu should open up but it does not. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have the same problem, located sat's ok but the time was incorrect, the following day it would not locate sat's, should I send it back? or is there a fix that wont do any harm if it doesnt work.
I found the solution that fixed my 60CSx. You need to make sure you have the latest chipset installed on your device. Go to
and download the chipset type G ver 2.9.
After you have loaded it on your 60CSx, you should be good to go. Just turn it on like you normally do and now you'll see your device retrieving locks w/ the satellites.
Let me know if this helps you out.

I just had this problem AGAIN (happened to me about 3 months ago) and did the update with WebUpdater (for the Mac). First, I had to update the Software from 3.60 to 3.70, then after running WebUpdater again, it offered me the new GPS Chipset Type G (version 3.00). So it looks like Garmin has updated the Chipset firmware once again.
Anyway, my unit is happy again... I wish these things were more reliable!

This method, reloading the chipset software will resolve this issue. I just wrote a post about it after having to fix a friend's unit that had the same problem. You can find the post at my web site.

Downloading the latest software update didn't fix my problem with acquiring satellites on my GPSmap 60CSx
My problem was solved only after installing the GPS Chipset Type G software version 2.90 from

Hrmm, well, after talking to garmin on the phone and by email, my solution was to return the unit where I bought it. I wasn't so keen on it when it stopped functioning a second time. Aside from the unreliability, I liked the device a lot, so I'm hoping that they can fix this bug and solve the chipset software evaporation problem at least for other people. Good luck to you all.

Guys the above link mentioned works great, I have had the same problem in the fact that I used mine one night, cut it off and the next morning when i cut it back on it said acquiring sats and hasn't worked since.
I did however go to the link listed above and downloaded the new firmware and chipset and now it is working like a champ. How long is still questionable but working now and that is more than what it was doing.
They have a new feature now called webupdater that keeps you up to date. I am running version 3.5 on my unit. Supposedly it checks your unit anytime its plugged in and updates you to the most current version.
Hope this helps.

Place the GPS outside with a clear 360 degree view of sky or as much of the horizon as possible and leave it for a few hours it needs to download the almanac from all satellites before doing this
from the Acquiring Satellite page press menu and make sure that the topline of the menu reads "Use With GPS off" if it reads "Use With GPS on" (this means it will not find any SAT's ie for indoor use) press enter to turn the GPS Receiver on

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Go to the Garmin Web site's home page, avoid staring to long at the hot chick and click on "On The Trail" .. "Mapping Handhelds" .. scroll down to the second row far right and click on the 60CSx. You will then see the 60CSx page, look to the right and click on "Updates & Dowdloads", on doing so you will now see four downloads to choose from. The one you will need is "GPS Chipset Type G Ver. 2.90 as of Nov 27, 2006" if you follow this you shouldn't have any problems. If however you do i'll keep an eye on this page and try to help, this is my first GPS and also had the same issue.
