Garmin gpsmap 60csx won't acquire satellites

I just bought this gps unit 4 days ago and it was working fine. I turned it on today and it won't acquire any satellites. It's my understanding that if this occurs some sort of menu should open up but it does not. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have the same problem, located sat's ok but the time was incorrect, the following day it would not locate sat's, should I send it back? or is there a fix that wont do any harm if it doesnt work.

I have the same problem as stated above. Please post the solution on how I can get my 60csx to acquire sat lock. FYI, the 'use with gps off' feature is not enabled.

    Thanks!

I had the same problem a couple weeks ago, and usedhttp://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdat... to update the software for unit and chip -- afterward the unit said the version 2.90 was installed and it worked again.

Sadly, yesterday the firmware again evaporated, we're back to version 0.00. I have an email into Garmin to see if they've got a more robust solution.

GPSMAP 60CSx receiver. New machine, purchased in Sweden, worked 3 days. Stopped acquiring satellites during work mission. All other functions appear to be ok. How to get new machine to acquire sat info?

I am involved in a forest reafforestration project(church) in Mozambique and desperately need this machine to function.

I would appreciate any good suggestions.

I got a 60CSX a month or so ago. It was working fine. I tried using it this weekend 2 or 3 times and it would not aquire satellites. Any solutions?

unloaded batteries-waited 20min.-no good . looked through all menus nothing helpful.

  • Anonymous Jul 28, 2008

I was using the unit with no problems this morning and the batteries were running low, so I put in fresh batteries. When I turned the unit back on it wouldn't acquire satellites. I left it for a few hours and tried again - no satellites. I put in the old batteries and it still won't acquire satellites.

I had same problem of not acquiring satellites. followed suggestions to update GPS Chipset Type G. This seemed to fix the problem for about three days. Problem returned. Reloded chipset and worked for a few days more. This has recurred four times, reseting each time after reloading the chipset. Anyone else have this problem recurring? How can it be fixed?

My Garmin 60CSX will not acquire satellites. I have never had a problem in the past. What should I do?

  • anfield1984 Aug 28, 2008

Only 3 months old and have this problem! Have used Garmin Web updater and installed all recommended updates for software and chipset. Unit still sticks on trying to acquire satellites. This unit cost a lot of money and has only been used 4 times. It is disgraceful quality control on Garmin's part.. Under British consumer law I am entitled to a full refund as this device is not fit for its intended purpose.

I found the solution that fixed my 60CSx. You need to make sure you have the latest chipset installed on your device. Go to

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloadsUpdates.jsp?product=010-00422-00&cID=145&pID=310

and download the chipset type G ver 2.9.

After you have loaded it on your 60CSx, you should be good to go. Just turn it on like you normally do and now you'll see your device retrieving locks w/ the satellites.

Let me know if this helps you out.

I just had this problem AGAIN (happened to me about 3 months ago) and did the update with WebUpdater (for the Mac). First, I had to update the Software from 3.60 to 3.70, then after running WebUpdater again, it offered me the new GPS Chipset Type G (version 3.00). So it looks like Garmin has updated the Chipset firmware once again.

Anyway, my unit is happy again... I wish these things were more reliable!

This method, reloading the chipset software will resolve this issue. I just wrote a post about it after having to fix a friend's unit that had the same problem. You can find the post at my web site.

Hrmm, well, after talking to garmin on the phone and by email, my solution was to return the unit where I bought it. I wasn't so keen on it when it stopped functioning a second time. Aside from the unreliability, I liked the device a lot, so I'm hoping that they can fix this bug and solve the chipset software evaporation problem at least for other people. Good luck to you all.

Guys the above link mentioned works great, I have had the same problem in the fact that I used mine one night, cut it off and the next morning when i cut it back on it said acquiring sats and hasn't worked since.

I did however go to the link listed above and downloaded the new firmware and chipset and now it is working like a champ. How long is still questionable but working now and that is more than what it was doing.

They have a new feature now called webupdater that keeps you up to date. I am running version 3.5 on my unit. Supposedly it checks your unit anytime its plugged in and updates you to the most current version.

Hope this helps.

Place the GPS outside with a clear 360 degree view of sky or as much of the horizon as possible and leave it for a few hours it needs to download the almanac from all satellites before doing this

from the Acquiring Satellite page press menu and make sure that the topline of the menu reads "Use With GPS off" if it reads "Use With GPS on" (this means it will not find any SAT's ie for indoor use) press enter to turn the GPS Receiver on

Go to the Garmin Web site's home page, avoid staring to long at the hot chick and click on "On The Trail" .. "Mapping Handhelds" .. scroll down to the second row far right and click on the 60CSx. You will then see the 60CSx page, look to the right and click on "Updates & Dowdloads", on doing so you will now see four downloads to choose from. The one you will need is "GPS Chipset Type G Ver. 2.90 as of Nov 27, 2006" if you follow this you shouldn't have any problems. If however you do i'll keep an eye on this page and try to help, this is my first GPS and also had the same issue.

My device has seemed to have lost its ability to acquire satellites. Any suggestions? It's Garmin GPSmap 60CSx. Thanks.

I would try a reset and firmware update first. To Reset the unit hold the Page and Enter keys down while you power up the unit. hold them down until you get a prompt asking you if you really want to reset.

Garmin has a free software called webupdater. this will put the latest software in your unit. If there is a GPS chipset software available please apply that also. It will be in the list when you run webupdater.

You may want to try an external antenna also to see if an internal connection came loose.
