Question about Mitsubishi Mr. Slim MXZ30TN Air Conditioner

Our Dometic RV Roof Air Model #600315 will not blow cold air. We were told that the controller would not activate because of a compressor lock up. Do we have to replace the entire air conditioner or only parts?

The unit is a little over 3 years old. Since it is not really old would it be worth while to replace just the compressor?

Also, if we have to replace the whole unit is there a more reliable make and model? We do have a height issue. Our motorhome is parked under a carport with a maximun of 10'10" clearance. Our mothorhome has a height of `10' 7".

Hello, dallasronh.
If the compressor is locked up it would cost less to replace the complete unit. Prices for complete units average around $500.00.
The compressor alone sells for over $300.00 Then there are accessories such as filter drier and refrigerant and capacitor plus about 2 hours labor from a service technician. Repair cost would exceed replacement cost.
The existing compressor controls can be by-passed for test purposes to verify a compressor lock up. Ask the technician if he verified by using a power cord directly to the compressor and capacitor.
I am not sure what you mean by "controller".switches, thermostat, circuit board??
If it is a part he is talking about and not a bad compressor you would spend up to $250.00 for parts and labor.
The rule of thumb is to spend up to 50% in repairs versus replacement cost.
Thank you for using FIXYA.

Dometic is a good brand name. No brand is without issues. Coleman would be a good replacement. First, check your warranty. Your compressor(sealed system) may be under a 5 year warranty.

If the air compressor is locked up - you "could" get it replaced.. However - if you do that - the other components could fail eventually.. Also depends on the age of the unit.. It might just as well be best to replace the hole unit.. If it is an older unit - you might consider replacing the hole unit.. Then you will have a warranty also..

Did you have a pro test the components ?
Did they try a "hard start kit" to maybe jump start the compressor ?

Good luck ;o)

RV Dometic Duo Therm roof top AC w/heat pump Model #630515.321El Serial #21631212 Yr. 2003. It is the rear unit, front unit working fine. In AC mode it is blowing hot air as if the heat pump is on. Fan...

If the Air comeing out is the same as the temp inside the RV make sure the compressor is running and not just the fans. It could be low on freon. If freon is ok then you would need to ck the wiring to the selector switch for a short. It would be obviouse because there will be melted wires. I am leaning toword low on freon since you have already been inside the wiring/control unit.

These are a closed system.(meaning that there is no fill valves for recharging) But a heating & cooling technician can solder them on and re-charge the system. Only problem there is to get an estimate up front, and compare it to buying a new roof unit which also comes with a new warranty, as well as keep in mind that the freon went somewhere, so there is an obvious leak that will need to be addressed as well. Most times it's wiser and cheaper in long run just to buy a new roof unit.
Are you sure that the compressor is kicking in? Did anyone remove cover on roof and check lines from compressor to see if any cooling is occurring?
These don't often leak, that's why I'm asking. Any idea how old the unit is?
Perhaps in fairly new, it's a warranty issue.

Installing rv roof airconditioner heat strip

I see what you see also in the manual. The difference is the Heat Strip package that part is optional and the 600212-001 with the optional heat strips becomes the new 600315-001 I talked to Dometic Duo-Therm and the models are the same but they both are not heat pumps but the new heat strip package comes on when told to go into heat mode when you change the thermostat to heat. The part you purchased will fit both model numbers you listed for your roof top air conditioner. Thanks, Sea Breeze

I have a 13,500 Dometic A/C that usually blows cool air but sometimes changes sounds and blows hot air for a while before switching back to cold. What do I need to fix?

Could be the compressor overload on the way out. Or an intermittant temp control. Or it might just be a loose connection at the junction box between the roof and the base.

My Dometic 620315 Penguin roof a/c does not produce cold air.

If the compressor is running with no cold air the unit is more than likely no good. It can not be recharged. you need a new unit. If the compressor is not running you need to check the capacitors.

Rv air conditioner

Check the temperature control and see if it clicks when you turn it off and then back on. Check to see if the compressor is running. If the compressor is running but not cooling you may have a leak and lost the refrigerant charge.

Dometic roof air

Sounds like the unit either has been miswired from the beginning or there is a stuck contactor relay.

The more rare scenario is that the control wire between the t-stat and the contactor is shorting to a power source causing the relay to energize. Good Luck!
