This error should also be accompanied with a red light in the #4 controller at the ring around the power button.

There are a few reasons for this code to trigger, the only fixable one by you is the AV cord. Check it to make sure it is all fine and connected properly. I would also try borrowing a friends to test out.

If this is a no-go, the error is covered by Microsoft's 3 year warranty. Call them to get a replacement if you have not modded or opened your console up.

Sounds like a hardware problem. Turn off the Xbox and remove the hard drive, then turn it back on. If you get still get the message, or red ring, then it's not the hard drive. If that didn't work make sure the A/V cable is hooked in securely. If you have a different A/V cable try that one and see if you still get the message. If you do then it's a problem with the hardware and will need repaired. There are several DIY websites for repairing an Xbox but you will need some tools. Or you can contact microsoft and see if you can still get it repaired for free.

System error E 74 is coming up on my xbox360

This problem occurs when the Xbox 360 console experiences a hardware failure. To verify that your console is displaying the E74 error message, follow these steps:
  1. Turn off the console.
  2. Turn on the console.
  3. Verify that your console displays the E74 error message.
If you are experiencing this problem, your Xbox 360 console must be repaired at our service center. to start the repair process.

Microsoft covers repairs for the E74 error for a period of three (3) years from the original purchase date of the console. If you are outside the initial three-year warranty period, you can still receive console repair service from Microsoft for a fee for the E74 error.

Overtime and much use the Xbox 360does not cool properly and begins to overheat. The Ring of Death isyour system warning you that the Xbox has become too hot and locks up.With time the problem only becomes worse to the point that if not fixedwhen first noticed can crash your Xbox 360.

The first thing that you can try is to unplug the AV cable and blowout any dust that may be built up in the connections. Then try hookingit back up and turning it on.If you are still facing the errorthan try getting a new AV cable, or you can borrow one from a friend sothat you don't buy a new cable if this is not the solution either. Onceyou have the new AV cable, plug it in, fire up your Xbox 360

If this didnt fix the error i have found a good clip for fixing xbox360 with e 74 system message <url=>Here<</url> it is.
