Hello,
8-(-9)=8+9= 17.

Suppose you have a temperature of -9 degrees outside and 8 (in fact +8) degrees in you home. What is the difference of temperature between the inside and the outside.
Starting from the -9 deg mark, you move up the scale counting the number of degree marks until you reach +8 degrees.
Each time you see a degree mark you add one
-9 Does not count, it is the starting point.
-8 Count 1
-7 2
-6 3
-5 4
-4 5
-3 6
-2 7
-1 8
0 9
+1 10
+2 11
..

+8 17

Hope it helps.

What's the difference between the H type and the 8 type collar?

The 8 type is made of two loops that go around the cat's neck and torso respectively, attached at the back of the neck. The H type harness connects the two loops with an additional piece, to which the leash connects.

From the HP website:

420 V.34 negotiations have failed from the originating machine during phase 4. Phase 4 occurs after V.8 and before the first T.30 frames are exchanged. Compatibility problems have been observed in this area when sending to non-HP units.

Solution:

Reattempt the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. 421 V.34 negotiations have failed from the originating machine during phase 3. Phase 3 occurs after V.8, before phase4, and before the first T.30 frames are exchanged. Compatibility problems have been observed in this area when sending to non-HP units.

Solution:

What are the RPN keystrokes for the following problem: 8%+.9(12.2-5.2)+3%

The problem as written is not well-formed. The leading "8%" does not say "8% of what", and the "+3%" is ambiguous, so I assume the problem really is (( x + 8%) + .9 ( 12.2 - 5.2 )) + 3%, where x is a number entered before.

The resulting RPN key sequence is:
  1. x [ENTER] --- giving a value for the 8% to operate on
  2. 8 [%] [+] --- add the 8% to the previous value
  3. .9 [ENTER] --- push the 0.9 to the stack
  4. 12.2 [ENTER] 5.2 [-] --- evaluate the content of the brace
  5. [x] --- multiply .9
  6. [+] -- add the x + 8% and .9 ( 12.2 - 5.2 ) terms
  7. 3 [%] [+] --- add three percent to the result from step 6.
In case you actually meant ( x + 8% ) + ( .9 ( 12.2 - 5.2 ) + 3% ) - note the difference in the position of the braces:
  1. x [ENTER] --- giving a value for the 8% to operate on
  2. 8 [%] [+] --- add the 8% to the previous value
  3. .9 [ENTER] --- push the 0.9 to the stack
  4. 12.2 [ENTER] 5.2 [-] --- evaluate the content of the brace
  5. [x] --- multiply .9
  6. 3 [%] [+] --- add three percent to the result from step 5.
  7. [+] -- add the x + 8% and .9 ( 12.2 - 5.2 ) + 3% terms.
Note, the only difference is the reversed order of step 6 and 7.

I have a 2.5 -8 Belvar 8A scope and I want to buy some flip up scope cover lens for it.But to order it they want exact sizes, I only have a tape measure and I came up with 1-6/8 for the eye peice and...

Dan, your best bet is to buy a set of calipers ($25) or find a friend with one, or take the scope to the shop where you expect to buy the lens covers and have them measure it for you. The butler creek covers come in a easily opened container and most shops will let you check fit in the shop. the 2.5 x 8 x ? does not really help you as the ? is the objective lens diameter. While this is good to know, different scope companies 40mm scopes may take different cover sizes as the tube outside diameter may be different.

Hope this helps
