Power button not turning computer on

this is most likely a short in a computer component, You need to unplug everything from the computer incl CPU, Memory, Add on Cards, Hdds, the lot, just have motherboard plugged in and push power, if it powers up (there won't be a pic but you will know it's working) start replacing parts one by one until it won't start and that is the faulty part. If it does nothing with just motherboard plugged in the motherboard is at fault and needs to be replaced, If you have had the motherboard out make sure no of the metal mounts in the case are shorting out anywhere under the motherboard as this will also cause the same fault.

Compac d-530 won't start red light under power button flashing

Take out the battery and only hook up the AC Adapter. Try turning on your laptop and if you still only get a flashing power button then try another AC Adapter. If the same thing happens then that means the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced.

Won't power up.

Try power drain by removing the battery and ac adapter then press the power button for 10 seconds. Plug the ac adapter back in and set aside the battery. Turn the system on.

If it doesn't power up, run the diagnostics utility by pressing the Fn+Power button at the same time.

If it still doesn't power on, motherboard needs replacement.

Note: Your XPS M1530 might still be under warranty. Dell can replace your motherboard for free.

I see possible failure as the following:
  1. The power control strip on the Palmrest Assembly (The actual button under the hinge cover)
  2. The motherboard, even though the system partially functions under the DMD button, that is a very limited function of the system

Monitor will not wake up when pc is turned on

How do I disable the power, sleep, and/or wake buttons in Windows? Answer: Disable the computer's ACPI feature If you wish to disable all three of these buttons, you can disable the computer's ACPI feature in BIOS / CMOS. Additional information about how to enter the BIOS / CMOS setup can be found on document CH000192. Once in BIOS / CMOS setup, you can disable ACPI in the power category. The location of this option is almost always different between all BIOS manufacturers and versions of BIOS.
Change the power option within Windows Microsoft Windows XP users By default, Microsoft Windows XP will prompt you what to do when the power button is pressed on the keyboard. If you wish to change this setting, follow the below steps.
  1. Click Start / Settings / Open the Control panel
  2. Within the Control Panel click Power Options
  3. In the Power Options Properties window, click the Advanced tab.
  4. Under Power buttons, click the down arrow under "When I press the power button on my computer" and/or "When I press the sleep button on my computer" and select the action you wish to perform when pressing the key.
Microsoft Windows 2000 users Unfortunately, Windows 2000 does not have all the features Windows XP does. However, you can change the power button or other buttons to perform a different function. For example, changing the power button to suspend instead of power. To do this, follow the below steps.
  1. Click Start / Settings / Open the Control panel
  2. Within the Control Panel, click Power Options
  3. In the Power Options Properties window, click the Advanced tab.
  4. Under Power buttons, click the down arrow under "When I press the power button on my computer" and/or "When I press the sleep button on my computer" and select the action you wish to perform when pressing the key.
