Ok... open your task manager and look at Processes. Look for any program that may be accessing your cam. if you don't know what a process does you can look it up online.

The camera not working in the messenger

I'm going to assume that you have a digital camera, and you wanted to use it on "Microsoft Messenger" or another application that uses a webcam. Many people ask if they can use their digital camera as a webcam. In the early days of digital imaging, it made sense to dual-function a camera because a webcam was a serious investment. However, webcams are now so inexpensive that manufacturers are not considering this functionality important in their digital cameras. In fact even the word 'webcam' creates the impression of bad imaging, so associating this function with a camera actually makes the camera seem 'cheap'.

So, why do so many people ask if they can do this? I believe it's caused by the 'grandfathered camera' problem. Advances in camera design have been so stunning in the last few years that it makes no sense to use an old camera when you could use a new one and get better pictures. But what do you do with the old camera? This is where people start thinking "I wonder if I can use this as a webcam?".

So, can your camera be used as a webcam? Probably not, but here's how you can tell. Make sure you've installed all the software you can find for your camera, power it up, and plug it in. Windows will tell you if it has a webcam function. If it's a webcam, then it will appear in "My Computer" as a device, right along with all the disk drives. To be sure, go to your control panel and select "Scanners and Cameras". Is your camera listed? If not... it's not a webcam.

In the unlikely event that you have a 'video in' on your computer, and that your camera has a 'video out' then you can follow the instructions on http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-tutorials.pl?mdl=DSCp200 on the sony site; but most people will not have that yellow 'video in' connection.

Your camera doesn't work as a webcam? No, I thought not. Here's a different suggestion for what to do with that old camera: keep it in a different place. Seriously, keep it in the car, at work, or at the cottage. One day, something interesting will happen there, and you'll be grateful of a camera with ANY resolution, even that old one!

My camera is not working.it says in use by another application. I dont know which application is using it actually none of those apps are turned on.How can i fix it?

It is possible your Startup files contains Skype, VID, PhotoBooth, or some other program that hijacks your webcam. Even if you don't have those programs running they may keep you from using a different application. You will have to manually go through any type of program that could use your webcam and turn off the camera, and/or remove those programs from your Startup menu.

You can't have two video cameras in operation at the same time. Video cameras are known as "streaming devices" to the operating system.

You will need to go into your device manager and "DISABLE" the one camera you don't want to use in order for the other to work properly.

Camera won't work...

Its not unusual for webcam software to remain hooked up to a program, even when you exit the previous program correctly.
The answer is to reboot the webcam software by unplugging your webcam from the USB port for a couple of seconds.

You might receive the "Sorry, no webcam was found on your system" error for any of the following reasons:
  • You don't have a webcam installed on your system.
  • You have a webcam installed, but it is not plugged in to your computer.
  • Another application is using your webcam. Close the other applications and try again.
  • Other applications might have crashed or not released the camera. Try rebooting your system.
  • Your camera might not be installed correctly. Try reinstalling your camera.
  • Yahoo! Messenger is using the incorrect camera device. Try changing the camera source.

No Web Cam

I e-mailed the company and they gave me an answer. It works because the manual that comes with the camera doesn't tell you how to put the camera in Web Mode. This is a strait copy and paste of their answer:

Please note that you will have to set the camera to PC Camera mode before using the webcam function.

1. Press POWER/MENU.

2. Press FLASH/SET or showletter?box=inbox&msgid=3629_1629343_4317_1647_12263_0_114552_28869_2428414296&bodypart=2&yy=51794&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&idx=0

3. Press POWER/MENU to select the icon showletter?box=inbox&msgid=3629_1629343_4317_1647_12263_0_114552_28869_2428414296&bodypart=3&yy=51794&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&idx=0 shown on the LCD.

4. Press showletter?box=inbox&msgid=3629_1629343_4317_1647_12263_0_114552_28869_2428414296&bodypart=4&yy=51794&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&idx=0 or showletter?box=inbox&msgid=3629_1629343_4317_1647_12263_0_114552_28869_2428414296&bodypart=5&yy=51794&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&idx=0 to select the icon showletter?box=inbox&msgid=3629_1629343_4317_1647_12263_0_114552_28869_2428414296&bodypart=6&yy=51794&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&idx=0 shown on the LCD.

5. Press FLASH/SET orshowletter?box=inbox&msgid=3629_1629343_4317_1647_12263_0_114552_28869_2428414296&bodypart=7&yy=51794&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&idx=0. .
