My ASUS K50IJ cant disable tap-to-click

My ASUS K50IJ has a problem with the mousepad. It picks up the most sensitive touch to it as a tap, as well as clicking while I type. I have tried, unsuccessfully, to find the location on the computer where i can disable the tap-to-click ability. the computer's manual says that there is a 'mouse options' folder under the 'mouse and other pointing devices' folder in the control panel, but it does not exist. when i search the folder, i get results, but none of them show me how or where to disable tap-to-click. is it impossible to disable tap-to click on my laptop?

Hey

you should have the touchpad drivers installed, the synaptics program icon on the bottom right corner of the screen, if you don't have it, the touchpad software/drivers and probably not installed and the computer is using generic drivers. the synaptics program, icon, you can right click on it and turn off the tap to clicp ability.

You should also be able to disable the whole touchpad with a FN+F1-f12 combination, its one of the buttons, might not be a feature on all the laptops out there tought so if yours doesn't have it, or none of the buttons do it, then it probably doesn't have it.

Tapping on gateway nv 53 trackpad not working

This just happened on my HP2730P. I always used the click on the touchpad, plus used the right click button at the bottom. Yesterday it just decided to stop working and went haywier...it started doing the selecting and dragging while I was moving the mouse around and my left click stopped working. Obviously my enable tap click was already on cuz I used it all the time.

My solution was disabling the buttons under the "buttons" tab. Then my mousepad tap started working again, I regained function in the scrollbar on the mousepad again, and if I need to right click I can use the point stick buttons right above the pad.

OR

Does it start working when you reboot? If so, try changing the "Touchpad Sensitivity" option :)

My elan smartpad mousepad on my asus k501 stopped working. I think I might have locked it, but I don't know how to unlock it.

Please restart the computer in safe mode (keep tapping F8 while restarting the comptuer untill you get the advanced menu to choose safe mode). Use the up and down arrow key to choose safe mode and then hit enter.

check if the mouse pad is working in safe mode, if it works then the hardware is good.
We need to work on reinstalling the software to solve the issue.

Revert to this post after checking in safe mode so that we can suggest next steps.

We want to disable the mousepad on an Asis K50i. How do we do it?

access the device manager on the PC then on the list provided go to the mice & other pointing devices category then expand that by either clicking on the Plus sign next to it then look for the name of the mouse pad right click on it & select disable.you can access device manager by doing this: click on start>right click computer>left click on manage>it will open up computer management then on the left side of that you will see the device manager option. that is for vista & windows 7. for windows XP start>right click my computer icon>select hardware tab>click device manager.

How to disable touch pad in asus k40IN series? I do not see touch pad settings?

This happend to me on a Asus U81 (Best Buy version of the U80) which has the Elantech mousepad
9.10 includes an X configuration utility called xinput. It is a command line tool. To see the many things you can do with this simply type xinput at a shell prompt.

Start by typing in:
Quote: xinput list This will show you all the input devices attached to your computer. You will need to know your mousepad's id to continue. On My Asus laptop the internal pointer was found as a "ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse". The Id I get after booting my system with my external mouse attached is 10.

Next you need to know how to disable the mousepad. So you need to know what properties it supports. the command is "xinput list-props" followed by your mousepad's id number, which for me was:
Quote: xinput list-props 10 The "Device Enabled" was what I needed to be able to use to switch it off. On my laptop this line was "Device Enabled (97): 1". The parenthesized number is the properties id number, the 1 that follows it is the value (0 will turn it off).

So now I need to set it such that the mousepad is disabled. My mousepad id is 10, property id I want to set is 97 and I need to set the property value to be 0. The option for xinput is set-int-prop which needs deviceid, propertyid, format of the value (8, 16, or 32 bit), and the value itself. For me this is:
Quote: xinput set-int-prop 10 97 8 0 To turn it back on:
Quote: xinput set-int-prop 10 97 8 1 Since this does its work on the X in memory it is not persistent. If you log out and back in the mousepad will be active again. This is desired behavior for me as I occasionally need to be able to use the laptop without my external mouse.

When I get a little time, I will write a small shell script that can toggle it on or off based on a grep of the output of "xinput list" and bind it to a key combination so I can do this without having to drop out to a script. (EDIT NOTE: See post #15 in this thread if you want the scripts)

One last note, xinput interacts with X. It will not be able to function at a normal terminal screen not running under your X. It will work just fine in an xterminal (the one under accessories menu).

Hope this helps.

How do I disable touch pad when using a mouse? ASUS K50IJ Win7 64 bit

To turn off the touchpad when an external mouse or other pointing device is present, you can goto the Control Panel and double click the Mouse properties icon.

Click the Device Select tab and check "Disable Touch Pad when USB Pointing Device is present." The cursor will no longer move via the touchpad.

Alternatively, you can permanently disable the touchpad of your laptop by clicking the "Disable Device" in the Touch Pad setting. Advanced users can disable the touchpad from the BIOS setup [press F2 when the computer is booting to enter BIOS settings]

Unfortunately, there are no keyboard shortcuts to enable/disable Touchpad movement or tapping. You can however drag the Mouse icon from the control panel to your Quick launch bar for quick access.

If that sounds too much effort, you may consider adjusting the sensitivity of the touchpad. This can be accessed from the Touch Pad tab of our mouse properties. Choose a low setting.

Asus mousepad stopped working after windows vista update

1.) Try reloading the touch pad drivers, should be on the CD that came with it or check the Asus website for new ones.
2.) Have you accidently disabled it? There is a Fn key combination to do this. Try Fn+F9. Also, there is an option to automatically disable the mouse pad when a USB mouse is plugged in. And of course, you can disable it from the Device Manager.
3.) Try going into :: Control Panel, find "Mouse", select the "Device Settings" tab, select the touchpad and click the "Settings" button). Check the settings in the "Tapping" section.
