Removing the front panel -bulb replacement

I have the WEGA KDF-50WE655 and I am trying to remove the front panel after loosening the two large screws on the back. The ends come loose, but I can't get the center to break loose. I feel that if I pull in the center any harder it will break something. Is there another screw that needs loosening?

There is no other screws other then at corners at back of TV that you have already removed/ loosen.
Please pull lower front from its top corners as its lower part has hooks with bottom of TV front.
Below image will help you to remove front panel for lamp replacement in this TV..
Thanks.

You are definitely on the right track. If you have removed the rear screws successfully then pull the front panel at the upper edges first.
Then pull at the sides of the controls cover holding at the bottom and pulling upward. (Do not pull at the center but rather at the 'sides of the center).
If you have the manual then follow the diagrams on page 18.

I have a Sony model KDF-50WE665. Made a pop and the picture went out. I think it's been slow to come on now for a couple of weeks, so it's probably the bulb. Can you tell me: 1) Where can I buy...

The lamp you need is Sony XL-2100U ($78 at Amazon) or XL-2100 ($84 at Amazon).

Turn off the TV and wait a few minutes before you unplug it (let the cooling fan run). Then wait at least another 30 minutes before replacing the lamp. There are two screws on the rear panel (left and right sides near the top left of center of the small panels on the on the ends). Loosen the screws and then pull off the front panel (below the screen). The front panel has to be pulled off in stages - start at the right side and pull forward and down, then the left - pull forward and down and then the middle - pull forward and up. Loosen the screw on the lamp cover with a coin and remove the cover. Loosen the two screws that hold the lamp (use an allan wrench) and remove the lamp by pulling it straight out. Slide in your new lamp (handle with care - use a glove to avoid any oil from your skin getting on the bulb). Tighten the two screws. Then replace the lamp cover and tighten the screw. (Make sure that the screw goes into the unit straight - otherwise the safety lock may keep the TV off.) Reattach the front cover and then tighten the back panel screws. Put the old lamp in a box after it has cooled completely for disposal.

Pictures are available in the User manual here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=KDF50WE655 . The appropriate section starts at page 16.

I hope this helps.

SUSPECT THE THERMAL FUSE, SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. HAVE THE WEGA KDF-55XS955. JUST NOT SURE WHERE IT'S LOCATED

To reach the thermal fuse you will have to remove the optical block assembly. Remove the back of the tv, about 12 screws. Removed the large support plate, and the small support bar on the left. Remove the buttom screw on the large fan on the lower right. Remove the connections to the bass speaker and the fan connections. Slighty lift on the large board assembly on the left and it comes right out after the small support is removed. There are two hidden screws holding in the optical block. You will need a long phillips screwdriver to loosens these two screws. They will loosen, but not come out. This will allow you to remove the optical block enough to to get to the front section of the TV. You should see the bulb attached to the optical block. If you look close, where the bulb was resting, there is a plastic plate with two screws, and a wire running through it. That is the Thermal Fuse. Remove the two screws and you will be able to remove the Fuse. Install the new fuse and reassemble. I recommend you remove the cooling fan on mounted above the bulb and clean it. This fan gets very dirty. Good luck.

How do I replace lamp in my Sony-KDF42WE655 model.

There are 2 thumb screws at each lower side. Fully loosen those thumb screws then pry the panel out. You will see the lamp covered by a plastic panel. You will see 4 screws covered by gray plastic. Remove the screws and you will see another thumb screw in it. Just loosen the thumb screw also then remove the covered plastic. You will now see the bulb. You need to remove the 2 screws then you can now remove the bulb. Just do backwards to put everything back again.

The unit turns on and works perfectly for 5-10 minutes then the screen goes black and the sound turns off. I removed the back panel, blew off the dust, and checked the fan. The problem still persists. Sony...

Howdy,
It sounds like your Lamp is bad, part number XL2100.

To replace Lamp:
1) Loosen the screws on rear panel (2 thumb type screws on either side of TV, just behind front panel/spreaker grill).
2) Remove front panel.
3) Loosen the screw with coin or similar object to remove Lamp cover (near left hand side).
4) Loosen the 2 screws that hold the Lamp, then pull out Lamp. Don't force Lamp it should go in easy.
5) Replace the new Lamp and tighten the screws, reattach Lamp cover & tighten screws.
6) Reattach front panel cover.
7) Tighten screws for front panel cover in it's place.

Good Luck, Big Irish.

I have a sony projection tv model kdf-50we655. The lamp led comes out red when i turn on the TV and it doesn't turn on. What do i need to do?

If the lamp light is flashing you have a bad lamp, this is a user replaceable part. I believe on this model it is located in the front under the panel where the power button is. To remove this panel: on the back of the tv on either side near the bottom edge there will be two screws that can be tuned by hand or by using a coin. You then pull the front cover off it will be a little stiff you need to tug a little bit and you will hear several pops, the pops are the grabbers letting loose, behind and toward the middle of the tv you will see a door, it is also another thumbscrew, remove this door and the bulb is in here, the bulb will cost somewhere in the neighborhood for about $200.00 they are easily available from many electronic shops.

How do I replace the lamp in my sony lcd projection tv Sony Model kdf-50we655

TV has 2 thumb screws on lower corners, loose these screws and take off lower front part, there is lamp cover under that removed lower long part at TV front, remove lamp cover, lamp is in front of you, lose its screws and pull it out.
Slide new lamp and put things in reverse order, job is done.
Lamp replacement procedure is also mentioned in User Manual of TV and if you want to download copy, click Sony Support.
Thanks.

My sony wega 60 lcd projection flat screens picture is getting darker and the lamp light will flash every now and then

That is a typical lamp failure, dimming of the picture, eventually the bulb may go out from time to time causing the picture to come and go, it is time for a new bulb. The bulb is located under the front panel, there are two thumbscrews on either side of the set in the back, loosen these screws and pull off the front panel, the panel has some snaps, so it will not come off easy, tug on it and you will hear several pops indicated the plastic retainer has let loose, then you will see a door near the center of the tv with another thumbscrew, you bulb is under this. Flap.

How to replace bulb on sony kdf-55000

there are 2 hand screws on the back of tv, both sides, loosen them, them remove the lower front plastic cover, it is tight, you will need to pull on it hard after you loosen the screws, when you remove the front cover you will see the lamp access door, one hand screw removes it. 2 allen screws remove the lamp, if you buy a sony lamp, it will come with the allen wrench. if the glass is busted on your lamp it is definately bad, if it's not busted, you might have another problem.
