Is there a small "pin hole" located near the DVD slot, this used to be pretty common. That hole is to allow for you to push a long needle, staightned out paper clip, etc through to puch the gears that the dvd tray slides on.
Be careful, you don't want to hit random things in the dvd mechanisms.
