Question about Computers & Internet

I have a Maxtor OneTouch 4 that is 1 year old and no fails to be detected from 2 desktops and 1 laptop. The drive isn't making any funny noises but is not being detected at all. Is the drive faulty and if so, can data be retrieved?

Is it LESS or MORE than one year old?
If LESS, then it can be replaced, under warranty.

Either the drive is faulty, or the USB-interface is faulty.

There exist "clean-room" data-recovery services;
for a _large_ fee, they disassemble the hard-drive in a "clean-room" environment, fix any problems, and "rescue" whatever files that can be rescued, writing them to a new disk-drive.

You may be able to remove the disk-drive from being inside the case, and try connecting the disk-drive "inside" your computer, to see if it can be detected.

I HAVE BEEN USING THE maxtor ONE TOUCH 500 GB hard drive for 2 years.i went for vacation one month and now i noticed the drive is not visible. It says unknown drive cannot be recognised

If the drive itself is bad then you are out of luck. However, it might be possible that the drive controller is bad and if you take out drive from the enclosure you will be able to salvage the drive. It most probably has a SATA drive so if you have a fairly new (like 3/4 years old) desktop computer you can put that drive inside it.

Hi there i hav ea maxtor onetouch 4 mini 120 gb.

Remove the hard drive from the Maxtor case, purchase an USB hard drive adapter case, and install the hard drive inside this case. Then you can connect this to the computer's USB port and if the hard drive is OK then this computer will detect it as an external USB hard drive, then you can open the folders and files and back them up.

Brand new Seagate Maxtor OneTouch 4 plus 750 Gb isn't recognized

jumpered wrong or its a fake drive (knockoff) but doubtful so the real diagnostics is
start run diskmgmt.msc in it you will find if drive is unalocated or not even detected. if its not detected goto run type eventvwr and check in system for errors ..

im starting to think upper and lower cdrom filters are causing usb issue. i had issues with old zip drive software causing this.

Open up the case

Well, since you are discarding the case, use a small flat head screw driver or something to pry the case open. Once inside, the HD will be plugged in to a circuit board and screwed in place. Unscrew it and carefuly unplug the HD from the circuit board. Then you can transfer it to another external HD housing.

Help with Maxtor onetouch 4

The Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini is a portable hard drive, with USB interface.

What you have to do is, just connect your Maxtor OneTouch 4 MiniT to the one end of USB cable, after that insert he other end to your laptop USB por.

Wait for few moments your operating system will read your new connected portable hard drive.

After that you can find a new drive letter in your My Computer, thats for your portable disk drive.
