Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-C2302 will not burn

My DVD plays CD's just fine. However, I can't backup my files to CD. Windows 2000 says that the CD can't be formatted. Two different software burners say that the DVD drive cannot be written to.

My Toshiba DVD/ROM SD M1502 will play CDs but does not see DVDs. When I click on the drive icon in My Computer it says that its not in a format that it can read. I've tried looking for drivers and have...

Try the DVD disk in some other computer, to ensure that the disk itself is OK.
Try some other "known-good" DVD-disk in your Toshiba SD M1502 drive.

Or, spend $40 and purchase a brand-new, CD/DVD reader/writer, to replace the faulty device.

Does the toshiba sd 2502 , can it burn cds

It is a DVD ROM drive which stands for DVD Read Only Memory. In other words, this drive is meant to only PLAY DVDs and CDs but NOT save data to them.

To burn CDs you need a CD burner. Burners are of 3 types:

CD writer only burns and reads CDs.

Combo drive reads CDs and DVDs but only burns CDs.

Super drive burns and reads from CDs and DVDs.

As you go higher in functionality, the price also increases. Check your needs before you plan to buy one. Also compare prices of all the drives. Note: burn-able media costs are separate.

Cannot read

I think your drive is old and full of dust inside or it may be nearing its end. Get some servicing.

Dvd-rom trouble

Hi, first of all, I'd check if you have the problem with CD/DVDs burned (written on a CD/DVD writer) or you have it also with original CD/DVDs, which would be weird. Depending on your finding to the above point I'd do one thing or another, but to me does not look like a driver problem. I'd check with Toshiba support if there's a new firmware for your drive, this does improve the media the device can read and correct problems like the one you mention. To know the fimware version you're using, open device manager and go find your drive, right click on it and choose details tab. Normally the firmware revision is the number at the end of the instance. Good luck mate !
