TDK CD-R 52X 80MIN disc failure rate

I bought a 100 stack of these discs and there seems to be an almost 50% failure rate. In all my years of burning I've never had this happen

Under the category of simple items to check what speed are the CD's rated?

You may also be able to improve the error rate by setting the hardware to record slower. This is often a good idea when considering using CD's on a different machine in the future.

My TDK 5900 CD recorder will not read CD-R 52x discs. Is there a software/firmware upgrade that will correct this?

The CD-R audio is not an obsolete format. Here's one set of writable discs from Amazon:*Version*=1&*entries*=0 . It is not the cheapest CD format, but they are out there. Amazon lists several other brands of CD-R Audio.

I hope this helps.

How do I download a lecture recorded on my MP3 VIDEO PLAYER to a cd for the car. Everytime I download a lecture, the cd will play on the compuyer but when i try to play it in the car it will not play.

Has your car radio played burned audio discs before?

If so, you may have to refer to the disc types that have worked before (ex: TDK 80min/700mb works but Memorex 80min/700mb will not).

And if worse comes to worse it could also be your cd burning software. I personally use PowerISO to make audio cds (Had issues with the installed Windows7 burning software myself).

I have a Phillps 870 CD rcorder. Have been using TDK Music CD-RW, 4x, 700mb discs. Just bought new discs from same manufacturer and sames epcs but get OPC FAILED message

Welcome to Fixya.

OPC stands for Optimum Power Calibration. basically, it's a small test to write on the media and read it back for self calibration of the laser power.

I'd try different blank discs to see if it's sensitive to some. Of course they recommend only Philips brand but most major brands should work. Sometimes the "times x" recording rating needs to be higher or lower.

You can also try to turn unit on at least 30 minutes or more before use (this seems to work best for me)

The bottom line is that certain media and certain writers just don't get along, so there are no permanent "Fix" for this issue as every CD recording device encounters such once in a while.

Here's an excerpt from one of the tech members who experienced this problem :

"If I have an OPC Fail message, I try another blank. If
I find that they consistently fail (about half a buck wasted) I move
the stack over to the computer (which seems to work fine with these)
and buy another stack of blanks of a different brand next time I see a
good price..."

Hope this helps, Thanks for using Fixya.

How many GBs are in each NexxTech 100 x CD-R - 700 MB ( 80min) 52x - spindle - storage media (ECDR48X100PK) 52x. Is it 4.7GB or 8.5?

In each CD? There's only 700 MB. Which is .7 GB. That's the standard for CDs. Writable DVDs usually have about 4.7 GB though.

I have been buring cds but only some of them work in my car cd player. i have played them in 3 others and they are fine. I thought these were a good quality cd . I have been using nero to burn these. ...

CD-RW is the best and make sure you get data discs. The RW means rewritable. Costs more but is a better CD. Older stereos have a problem reading the data if they are MP3 versus Media. Nero is an excellent program. When you burn make sure you have the program confirm it is readable. Takes longer to burn but then you know it works.

Just bought a used sony cfd-c1000. It will play most of my burned cd's but not one specific one: they are all on cd-r and I burned them all the same way with the same program, any ideas why it won't work?

My first two thoughts are: 1) It's a defective disc or 2) The disc wasn't finalized after it was burned. CD-R discs will not play on any machine other than the one that they were recorded on until they are finalized on that recorder. If it will play on the recorder and it has been finalized then just burn another copy of it. I have seen disc compatibility issues on one disc out of a stack of 100 before.
