Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I never turn off my monitor, just my computer. Over the weekend, the monitor started shutting off when I turned off the computer and it would take several tries to turn it back on. After 3 days of this, the monitor finally just would not turn back on at all. I hardly ever used my on-off button on the computer, so that should not be worn out. I bought the whole set-up in January of 2006. Help!

First, check all connections to see if they are snug. Something could be loose.

I'm wondering if your computer system is plugged into a power surge protector / power strip. If so, that could be causing your power problems, also.

Power off / on the power strip to see if the monitor problem resolves.

If not, plug the monitor's power connector directly into an outlet.

If you are still experiencing problems with your monitor, the power connector could be faulty.

Hope this helps.

You should have turned off your monitor,it being on al the time has burned something out. Cheaply made electronics will eventually over heat and fail. even brand name computer products have been using cheap defective capacitoris from China, which result in whole product lines failing.
Is this a no name monitor or a brand name?
Check if it is under warranty or buy sn inexpensiver replacement. Repairs will cost you as much as a new one.

Monitor shuts off after approx 2 min when i start. i turn monitor switch off and turn on again and stays on approx 2 min and shuts off again

Go to control panel > Power options and check the power settings there. Are the settings for "Turn off monitor" set to 2 minutes? Increase the time and see if there is any changes.
If the above does not solve it, it's quite likely that your monitor's power supply is giving problems. Turn it in for warranty/repair.

We leave our computer turned on at night but we turn off the monitor. The last two weeks when we have turned on our monitor in the morning it will show the desktop but when we move the mouse the monitor...

Yes. Do not turn the monitor off by its power switch, let the computer do the work for you. Alot of times when people use the power switch to turn off the monitor, the computer sees that all of a sudden the monitor has been disconnected from the pc. when that happens the pc sees it as a device beimg unplugged and removes that certain device from the pc's list of things that should be connected, and when you turn it back on the pc sees it again and starts loading drivers for that new part(monitor)

Monitor will not turn on including power switch

I suspect the power supply for the monitor. Try a power supply from a working monitor. If you have a used computer store nearby, take your power supply to them and try it on another monitor.

There is no need to turn off a monitor using its power switch. Monitors automatically go into standby mode when they are not receiving a signal. In standby mode they use less than one cent of electricity per day. If saving electricity is your goal, raise the temperature in your home by a degree and run the air conditioning less.

Takes to long for the monitor to start

This is a power supply problem in the monitor. There is an unstable component or components that are failing or you have some cold solder joints in the connections. The reason it turns on is that some components are self healing and will sometimes stabilize after warm-up periods.Cold solder joints sometime close after heating up in the circuit You should return to dealer for repair or replacement. Hope this helps you.

Start > turn off computer does not work on XP

Some process running in the background is not letting the system shut down. Use task manager to kill unnecessary processes before pressing turn off. If it shut downs then try to locate the process using taskmanager which is causing this problem.

Let me know if it helps.
