1. It could be the coil.
2. It could be the run/stop switch.
3. It could the interconnecting wiring. Is it continuous? Is it shorted? HTH Lou

I have a 272xp chainsaws that I can't seem to get to run no matter what I do it doesn't get a hot enough spark I've replaced the coil plug and plug wire

any spark in the right combustion pressure and mixture will cause a result
items to check are the crankshaft seals--old well used units wear out the seals thereby loosing compression pressure
next --is the air/fuel mixture right
if still in doubt change the coil

What is a coil pack on a car

A coil pack is the modern-day equivalent to an older vehicle's ignition coil (which provides electrical spark for all of the spark plug wires when combined with a distributor, distributor cap and rotor). However, one coil pack usually only drives 2-4 spark plug wires or boots (though some drive 6). In some cases 1 coil-on boot configuration is used and no spark plug wires are present. In this case the vehicle may use one coil per spark plug. Basically, a modern V8 will require 2-8 coil packs to provide spark for combustion, where'as an older V8 would usually only have one ignition coil. A four-cylinder vehicle will usually have 2-4 (depending on whether or not it utilizes a coil on boot configuration). Some V6 vehicles use 1 coil pack for all 6 cylinders and the top resembles that of an older distributor cap, with connections for spark plug wires. Many V6 configurations use 3 coil packs. Coil packs should be replaced every 60,000-100,000 miles with a full tune-up, or as need. They are expensive, but they help your vehicle operate efficiently and are good for the environment.

Jeep grand cherokee crankshaft position sensor replaced but still given a weak spark

the coil. ? older post.
the PCM reports even one drop out of 10 , on the CKP or CMP sensors. 99.9% of these changed are good.
why not tell me what you have,? full symptoms and evidence.
got P030x misfiring? are you even using a scan tool,? or working blind.
may be its the coil.?
can can you feel the misfiring.c
can you see the engine shake? all of this is evidence.
do not miss out on that.
does the scan too shop pending misfire codes?
stored codes, or codes while driving, learn to use the scan tool.
do a 60k mile tune up yet?
your engine is not COP coils like the V8
its COIL rail that is a COIL pack with 3 coils inside
that runs 2 sparks each called WASTED park.
so did you try new sparkplugs(dah)first then new coil pack wires HV
next , then a new coil pack last.
start with the cheap spark plug and wires, (called a tuneup)
then pop for coil pack./
misfire can be clogged or leaking injectors too, and that ill skip
with out you using the scan tool fully.

Ignition coil problematic primary feed

older post.
how many miles, how many miles for the last tuneup.????

The PCM CREATES spark. on all cars since about 1991.
the only changes are where they hid the IGNITOR.
or how may spark coils you have.
my guess, is your enigne is 3.8L just like my 08
where is the coil pack, well see those spark plug wires.
the go directly to the top mounted coil pack. see that?

the PCM monitors the rail coil , the 3.8 has a 3 COIL pack.
and each coil runs 2 cylinders. like this.
so what is the first thing to do here.
easy , put in new spark plugs.
try doing the tuneups. in the glove box guide.
page 433 , at 102,000 miles. spark plugs and cables.
mine has only 60,000 miles, and they both were bad.
spark plugs and HV, wires so I upgraded to NGK mag wires.
and new NGK plugs.
if it still fails, then try a new coil pack.

HV= high voltage wire sets.

Husky 272xp, getting spark from new plug, seated and backed off both low & high screw 1 1/2 turns, still wont crank. any advice?

To diagnose if its fuel related its best to remove the air filter and try to start with airo start. If no go and you know you have spark it's time for a compression test.

Remove the flywheel cover to expose the flywheel and the ignition module. Remove the ignition switch wire from the module and retry for spark. If still nothing, try using a thin business card for a gap gauge between the flywheel magnets and the module poles. Insert the card, then loosen the module screws--and allow it to stick to the magnets. Re-tighten the screws and rotate the flywheel to remove the card. Try again for spark. If still nothing, then replace the module. Install the new part as above. Don't forget the switch wire connection. Good luck!

I have an older 12 hp briggs and stratton motor. There is no spark even with new plug. I have removed the coil. Is there any way I can test it with a multi meter as opposed to buying a new one? Thanks,...

Did you try to see if you got a spark with out the cable (wire) that connects to the coil? Try that and if you get a spark then your ignition switch is probably bad. If no spark then you have a bad coil.
