Question about Dell Inspiron 9100 Notebook

2 Answers

Was on "dial up" to Earthlink ISP when power failed. Now I cannot reach ISP either by dialup or Wifi. Error message when trying to connect by dial up is:" Error 680, no dial tone". Dialing out without waiting for a dial tone simply results in no connection. Modem diagnostics declare the modem good. When using wifi at the library internet explorer attempts to load my start page from earthlink ISP, but at that point the system 'hangs' and nothing happens. However, after establishing a wifi connection, I am able to browse the internet via Mozilla Firefox. Is my problem hardware or software?

This is not big deal...this is common issues with dialups, all what you need gto do is to delete your old setup connection and create new one but you need to delete it first then reboot and then do new setup connection
keep cleaning your computer use the utility for it

I have a netzero dialup and when i try to establish a connection i get "dialing, redialing in 5 seconds, dialing..., unable to establish a connection" How do i establish a connection?

If you turn your sound up on the computer, do you hear a dial tone? Does it then begin dialing? If not you may have a bad modem. Try dialing the ISP's number with your phone, it should dial in and you should hear various beeps and so on, if not the ISP is down.

When trying to use Outlook Express 6, I get an "Error Message " stating "an error occured while establishing the dail up network connection AOL Dailer"

If you are using DialUp Internet Service from AOL, try establishing a connection first and the open Outlook Express.

If you have broadband (cable/dsl) internet service from another company, then your computer is incorrectly setup. In this case, open Control Panel, Internet Options, then click on the connections tab and delete all and any listed dialup connections or simply select the "Never dial a connection" option right under the dialup connections list box.

Also, if you are not using the AOL software, I'd recommend that you uninstall it completely to free lots of resources and speed up your computer as a result. For this, go into the Control Panel, add/remove programs and remove all AOL applications from the list.

Good luck!

Cannot connect to isp using modem (dialup) get error code 680. using vista home premium.

error code 680 means there is no dial tone.

manually attach a phone to the phone jack you are connecting to and check if there is a dial tone. if there is no dial tone on that jack try a diff phone jack. if still fails call your telco.

if there is dial tone to other jacks it means the previous jack is faulty or damage.

Trying to connect to dialup with acer laptop notebook

Right click My Computer icon and then My Properties. Click on the Devices tab and check hhe list for Modems. See if your modem appears and if is correctly installed (an exclamation point beside iyour modem, means there is an instalation error).

If everything is OK, you still have to setup the dialup connection:enter the phone number to connect , the username and password, supplied by your ISP provider.

Modem won't connect to internet. OS: WinXP Pro SP 3. ISP: Earthlink DSL. Modem: ZyXEL P-660R-D1 (supplied by Earthlink) connected to computer with ethernet cable. Modem includes double filter for phone...

maybe you have to wait for your provider for them to isolate the problem, it seems that your modem got hit maybe by high surge. ask them to bring a spare modem for isolation.. there is no way for you to isolate the problem coz you've already done the basic....

How d o I dial the Username and Password From this router.

Hello,

If you have a dialup internet connection the router can not directly help you, because the device that you are using for dialup (your PC) needs to first dial up your ISP using the telephone and then once connected it will use PPP to setup the IP Connection, at that point your within the PPP stack it will send your Password and Username. When that is all done you have connectivity. The router assumes that your connection by nature is either DHCP or PPPoE, not PPP or SLIP as with a dial up connection

What you need is a device that has dialup capibilities, and an internal PPP stack to allow for connectivity to the ISP while allowing for a connition to the router. This can be done by connecting one of your PCs (with Internet sharing enabled) to the internet via dialup and using a second ethernet connection to your router, then from the router you can connect your other PCs.

This method involves setting up two different subnets so here is a suggestion:

1) On the PC set the ethernet LAN facing connection to an IP Address of 192.168.10.100, netmask to 255.255.255.0, Gateway to 192.168.10.1 no DNS

2) On the router set the WAN IP Address to 192.168.10.1 and the DNS to the DNS provided by the ISP.

3) On the router facing the LAN (your network) set the IP Address to 192.168.1.1 and thell the router to act like a DHCP server.

This way you will be able to connect your PCs to the router and have it serve as a permanent connection to the PC which will still have to dial out but you can send a periodic ping sequence to keep the Internet connection up. and connfiguer auto-dial if the connection goes down.

I hope this helps

Thank you,

Outlook express

This wants your mail settings, not your dialup settings.

dialup should look something like

user@dialup.com
userpassword

mail settings should be

mail.dialup.com (usually pop.domainname.com)
smtpmail.dialup.com  (Usually smtp.domainname.com)
user
userpassword

Try your webmail. What ISP are you using?
