Igniter current was measured at 3.2 amps. Electronic control indicates set point is reached, but actual oven temp is much less. Also, oven will not reignite to maintain setpoint. Setpoint must be constantly increased to reignite oven.

Which terminals on the control unit are for the sensor wires?

  • sjlpe Sep 30, 2009

The sensor measures approx. 1100 ohms. Is there any way to confirm the electronic control is damaged?

  • sjlpe Oct 02, 2009

The broiler works correctly. Therefore, does this rule out problems with both the controller and the sensor?

Have your oven ignitor checked. If they do not get hot enough quick enough the oven will light intermit. Usually when it does light you will often get a scent of gas or a poof. If that's the case, change the ignitor

Sounds like the sensor is giving a false reading after the unit heats up. If the oven is reading the temp, and the temp isn't there, maybe we have a oven sensor problem. The sensor would measure around 1060 ohms at room temp. However when it heats up that will change and should fluctuate with temp change. Could be that it is not calling for the oven to turn on. If the oven is calling for more heat and not igniting, the safety valve is bad.

In doing some research on this range. It is likely that the oven isn't working do to the electronic control. GE has had some problems with these units picking up electical noise in the spark module. You may have a damaged contol due to this. You can measure the sensor from the back of the range. Where it come out of the back of the oven should be a connector. Sensor should measure around 1060 ohms.

I don't know of any easy way to check the control. Pull it out and look for a bad solder connection on the back of the relays. Also check all the plugs for bad solder.

  • Howard Warren Oct 02, 2009

No it doesn't. The ignitor is working but the oven isn't working. When it doesn't re-light after

the first time, does the ignitor try to light it. If so then we may be looking at the safety valve for the oven. This is the piece that is in the back of the range where the gas goes into the oven. The control board can still be a cause. Send me a complete model number on this and I'll see if GE has had similar problems with this exact model. If the ignitor isn't trying to light it after the preheat then we have to look at the control.

In looking at this range and discussing what we have, you need one of two parts. Either the control valve is failing (which is what I would suspect) or the control board (erc) is bad. Either of these parts are fairly expensive (around 200.00 dollars each). Knowing the age of the range (16yrs), you may want to consider replacing. If you are set on fixing it, here are the part numbers.

Replaced the ignitor on XL44, glows, lights, but turns off way before reaching temperature. I've replaced sensor as well. ideas?

Number 43 is the part I suspect is bad on your stove. It is the oven sensor. It relays back electrical current to the electronic range control. All stove sensors are built the same. They should test out @ around 1100 ohms @ room temp. If the sensor is off it will not relay correct readings to the control.

TEMP IN HOUSE DOSE NOT REACH TEMP SETTING HEATING MAYTAG 5 TON WITH 10 SEER

you need to be more specific here.

If you are not reaching the setpoint (given the setpoint is normal range), then you most likely have an issue. Either the system is not running at max capacity or the system has experienced a failure.

If your setpoint is extremely high (above 80°), then the biggest issue is operator error.

Set your thermostat to 70° and see if it reaches and satisfies. If it does, slowly increase temp to get an idea of where its having trouble. If it doesn't.....call for service.

As I can improve the yield of refrigeration of the digging, it is already difficult to maintain the indicated temperature

Here is the breakdown on this machine by temperature - it only works optimally in a room that is 68-70 degrees, which is a little on the cold side:

to actually reach 7 degrees Celsius, the room temp must be 68 degrees Farenheit or below
to reach 9 C, room must be 70 F or below
to reach 11 C, room must be 72 F or below

I have a comfort zone furnace. If it's 50 degrees in the house, and i set my thermostat to 70 or so,it takes at least 24 hours to reach 70 degrees. The furnace starts up and runs normally for about five...

When the thermostat calls for heat it should run until the room reaches the temperature setting then shut off. Is the blower motor running and can you feel air coming out of the vents? It sounds like the blower is either not running or putting out enough air to keep the furnace heating. The blower moves the heat from the heat exchanger to the room, if it can't remove enough heat from the heat exchanger there is a limit switch that will shut the burner off if it gets to hot and that's what it sounds like is happening.

GE Spectra XL44 oes not heat to desired setting

The oven sensor ( WB21X5301) is suppose to tell the oven control when to turn on and off to reach and maintain oven temp, but before you go replacing it, try to observe how long it takes from the time you turn the oven on to the time the oven ignites. Ignition should be 30 seconds to about 90 seconds. If it is taking a very long time, replace the igniter (
WB2X9154
). Ignitors get weaker over time, and this should be looked at first, as both parts are not real cheap, so you don't want to just start throwing parts at it. Here is a trick you can try: On the JGBP90 (model you posted under) the broil ignitor is the same part number as the oven ignitor, so if the broiler, which is generally used much less than the oven, is working fine you can interchange the two ignitors to see if that solves your oven temp problem without having to buy a oven temp sensor first.
