Dell Latitude D610 power brick LED goes out when it is connected.

Dell Latitude D610 power brick LED goes out when it is plugged into laptop. Tried another power brick and the problem persists. Laptop works on battery. Removed motherboard and all attached components and still the same problem. Looks like a faulty component on the motherboard. Can't find a schematic of the motherboard. Any assistance appreciated.

Unfortunately you are correct in that there is a faulty component on the mother board. The rest of the bad news is the motherboard will cost as much as a new computer and is most likely only available from Dell unless you get lucky and find one on ebay. In the power circuit there are several Diodes and Capacitors. If any of these go out you will have this issue. Another possible failure point if the power plug itself. If there is any wiggle at all you could have a broken circuit path. This seems like an easy fix with solder but the truth is that is a multi-layer circuit board and very hard top make sure you have a good connection across all layers unless you have the proper hot air station to doing the repair. Look on ebay for your model where someone is selling parts for a busted screen or somthing like that and replace the motherboard. Remember it needs to be the same model since the motherboard is cut specifically for the housing. This will be your cheapest and easiest solution. Another option would be to part out and sell the remaining working compnents yourself and replace you computer. Sorry, I have no other solution. The good news is the working parts including the screen should just about net you 75% of the cost of a new machine if you choose that route.

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

It may be that the power brick your using is damaged. You may just need a new power cord. Sometimes power cords can be damaged quite easily.

My laptop won't power up. I have removed the battery and tried starting it, nothing. I removed the AC source and tried with only the battery and nothing. I noticed the led is a little dimmer than normal...

I know this sounds simple but have you checked the power connections at the brick (middle of the power cord) often this comes loose and is not noticed until battery is dead. The leds staying dim is what made me think of this. They will go out when on battery only especially if power cord is not producing any power. When you plug in the laptop do you see a little battery charging light come on?

LIGHT COMES ON AC ADAPTER BUT GOES OFF WHEN PLUGGED INTO NOTEBOOK

This is possibly an internal power Supply fault. take the battery out, plug in the adapter, IF the unit works now, you have A: A battery problem, or B: a charging circuit problem. If the unit still fails to work, the power supply in the PC has faulted. You need to get a "Quote: for a repair.

Try reseating the RAM module(s) then see if the issue goes away. If no change, try them one at a time.
