Hi
The plastic rod that has 2 small hooks on the end and has ribs around the opposite end is your thumbscrew. There is suppose to be a small round nut that is molded into the position between the legs with the hooks. If you use the key to tighten the thumbscrew you will pull the nut out and then the thumbscrew will pop out of the brew head. Check the stem of the filter screen. If you have a item about that is about 3/8 of an inch long and has a grove in the middle and small bumps on it, that’s the nut. You need a new thumbscrew. Remove the old nut on the stem before putting it in the new thumbscrew. Remember it’s a thumbscrew, so it only needs to be finger tight. The key is for removing only.

Hi
There is a small knob in the bean hopper. It sounds like it is all the way to the minus. Turn it back towards the plus(+) then back 1 mark. Then try again. It could also be a stripped thumbscrew that pushes up and allows the coffee to fill the head and dredge drawer. See if there is any water in the top of the brew unit where the thumb screw is? I have a new to me Starbucks Italia. I have made a few shots and it is telling me to "empty grounds". I have done so but the empty grounds mssg won't go off and it won't function. what do I need to do?

Hi
When you want to empty the grounds because it says to in the menu, REMEMBER TO LEAVE THE MACHINE ON when you remove the drawer. The machine is a counter and when it reaches the magic number for that machine the message comes on. If the machine is turned off when you pull the drawer out, the machine doesn't know this and the message will be there when you turn the machine back on. Also remember to leave the drawer out for at least 15 seconds or a little longer so the machine thinks you actually dumped the grounds.

The exact same lid is on the Wolfgang Puck WPTPCM010 coffee maker. (It's exactly like the Starbucks one - same size & fit.) Call (800) 275-8273 and order part # WPTPCM010-6; the product description is "LID FOR CARAFE". It will cost you $4.99 + 5.00 shipping. My Starbucks coffee pot works PERFECTLY again. Just make sure that you put the lid on the carafe correctly before you use it, since the seal is new.

I had the same problem. The Barista Zia is the same as the Barista Athena on the inside, the only diffrence between the two is the plastic shell on the Zia, and the steaming wand is on the opposite side. This is the instruction manuel for the barista athena, so its basically the same. Thanks! good luck!

Water in the coffee grounds drawer

Look for a leak near the brew group on near the piston area.

Changing the brew group should solve this problem.
