Question about Marantz SR-5200 Receiver

Statics and hissing...

I am from Hungary and I have a big problem with my Marantz SR-5200 receiver.

Statics and hissing...

The only way I can get clear sound is using s-direct. Any other selection produce severe static and hissing all of the speakers, so that seems to indicate it is something within the receiver, around the DSP card.
Is there anything I can look for to repair it myself, or will this require a full repair job? Or should I just bite the bullet and buy a new receiver?:)

Thank you for helping me.

P.s.:I'm an engineer, so I would like to try to repair it myself.

I have similar problem. All inputs work fine cd, tv, aux etc... S-Direct only! Surround mode does not work and all speakers have white noise. I do not understand suggested fix. Move antenna to different location?? Ground loop? Confusing?? Can you explain more clearly?

    Hi folks,

It looks like I have the same problem with my Marantz SR6200. More then a year it is
giving me this a kind of a scrunchy white noise on the background after it is
running perfectly for 15 min or sometimes immediately. I did by pass this through using
different outputs, like from optical to coax. First it did work fine,
but eventually I did had the same problem on this output as well. Now I have no outputs left anymore :-( whre I do not have this problem.

I see thekinfam posted that the replacement of IC720 did solve the
problem? Is this easy to do? If yes, where can I buy this IC720 and how
can I locate this on the pcb?

Your help will be really appreciated..

    ic720 was faulty, all fixed

"Seth G asked if this is a easy repair"
ic720 a surface mount ic and awkward ta access ,
if you have good soldering skills you will be able
to do it, if not i would not attempt it and would take it to
    a repair shop.

Because your DAC chip have problem.

thekinfam is right

The first green board is DSP board

Remove IC-720

Install new DAC (CS4391)

If your sourrond channel have this problem you can change IC-719 (CS4228)

Normally CS4391 cost 1usd.

I have similar problem with Marantz 5200. All inputs work fine cd, tv, aux, etc... S-Direct mode only. Surround sound does not work and all speakers put out white noise static. I'm a little confused by marsrover's suggested fix. Can you explain more clearly?

Please disconnect all electrical equipment around you and connect it to wall outlet directly-change the place of your antenna to another place-bring power cord with ground loop isolator-bring an transformer 1:1(input=output)and connect your system to it.

No surround modes produce any sound . only have sound on s direct mode. marantz sr 5200

Not having the ability to look at it on the bench, more than likely your DSP chip is bad. If you have a local repair house that is willing to confirm that is the problem without charging you an arm and a leg, that's your best bet. It is an expensive repair, anywhere between 300 to 500. At that point, I would say to replace the unit. Sorry for the bad news, but that's my "best guess" The only other thing to check would be your "Audio input Settings" Make sure it's either on "Auto" or whichever type you are using. "Digital Coaxial", "Optical", or "Analog" (RCA) hope this helps! If you have any further questions, just post a reply and I can help further. Best of luck!

Playstation 3

I assume that the Marantz has an Optical lead input. If so you should connect an digital optical lead directly between the PS3 and the Marantz receiver for the sound while keeping the HDMI lead to the projector for the picture. You will need to configure the PS3 to be outputting the sound to the optical output (done through the settings menu).

Loss of volume on left channel

Marantz SR 5200/6200 lost audio or crackling on left or right channel except in mode s-direct is now fixed !
The root cause is a defective inegrated circuit on DSP board (the one with digital inputs). To fix it change the chip CS4391 by a new one or better by the improved version CS4392. On my device a capacitor was cut close to this IC : replace one 1uF after changing the IC. For any question search me with my callsing "F5RCT"; i have a spare IC for the one who is able to change it !
