Well I got the plug out of the top of the transaxle to check/ add fluid .I had a 5" pair of Chanel locks that I grab the tab with a pull up steady sustained pull, while at the same time with a short screw driver worked the shaft of the plug upward in a little while it came out.... Now putting the plug back in was another matter bruit force pushing the plug downward did not work. That plug has a hole that goes down through it half way. I had a blunt end wooden dow that fit into the hole stuck the plug in the hole with the dow in it and took the flat side of my pliers and with a little downward pressure it went right in. I also put a little oil on the side of the plug. 80W90 oil in transaxle.

In most cases the hydrostatic drives are not made by the company tractor or lawnmower.
This is in the owners manual.
Hydrostatic Transmission
The hydrostatic transmission is sealed at the factory
and is maintenance free. The fluid level cannot be
checked nor can the oil be changed. Always keep the
area around the transmission cooling fan free of grass
and debris at all times

If this is a manual transmission, check the drive belt from the engine back to the transmission. With the clutch pedal up (engaged) there should be no slack in the belt.
If it is a hydrostatic drive, check the drive belt and make sure it is tight. Check the transmission fluid level and make sure it is full. Refer to your owners manual as it will describe the fluid check proceedure.
Good luck, let me know.
Regards,
Most likely it is nothing to worry about, just pull off slow. I take it is a hydrostatic transmission? Fluid level for a hydrostatic has to be checked at a small engine repair/deal shop. I have noted that when transmissions go bad the whirring noise becomes signifantly louder, but some whir is normal.
How do you change the hydrostatic transmission fluid?
