I could not find info on your model but they have the newer USB model on EBay starting at .99. Might be worth upgrading.

Chill mat doesn't run automatically when plugged in to USB port

I done believe in using those but, you need to check it on another usb port to be sure that it is not the fan in the pad that is bad.

I got a Targus PA248U Notebook Chill Pad, the part inside where I plug the cable in is messed up I think and it won't power on. How do I open it up to have a look to see if I can fix it?

I opened the case and hard wired the power cord directly to the wires of the fans. There are 4 philips-head screws at the four top corners under the rubber adhesive pads. Separate the top from the bottom. Two wires come from each of the fans. Cut and twist the two positive wires together and the two negative wires together. Cut the end off the power cord that is NOT the USB end and strip the wire insulation back. You will find a white insulated wire surrounded by another wire. Twist the ends of each separately making sure they are separated by the white insulation. Remove the circuit board using the tiny screws where the switch is and put the power cord end through the switch hole. Tie a knot in the cord to prevent cord from pulling out. Make sure the USB end can reach a USB port on your computer. Carefully test which wires to twist together by touching each to see if the fans turn. One way will work and other way won't. When sure of correct wires, you can solder them together and insulate properly with small wire nuts or electrical tape. Reassemble case with screws and plug in USB cord end when you want the fans to cool your notebook computer. I hope that this helps.

My brother and I have the AWE01us1 chill hub. Initially it worked fine. We have a wireless microsoft mouse and USB adapter is connected to 1 of the 4 USB ports. Occasionally the mouse stops working...

When I typed AWE01us1 chill hub in my search engine I came up with Targus as the manufacturer of the chill hup not the laptop. Before buying products I would read customer rates and comments on the products. My public library has a free link to consumer reports, or has product ratings.

I'm also getting mixed info regarding the mouse, is the mouse wireless, stopped working, and you somehow overrode the wireless with a USB cable and that stopped working. I'm assuming the mouse worked fine before the installation of the chill hub. If you read the reviews on Amazon, I'm seeing other types of USB problems. Try returning the chill hub and purchasing another brand. You may have to call customer support for the laptop. Let me know if this was helpful.

My 17 " Targus chill

Ignore the messages -- you connect it to draw electrical power through the USB port, and that's all you need. It's not like some USB-devices (printers, scanners, et cetera) where getting power to the device is only "half" of the solution.

It came with a white tray and I don't know what it's for.

That would be the Chill / Thaw try. (it allows air to circulate under the pan, so you get the fastest chilling, of say 6 cans, or thawing of frozen items safely in your CustomCool pan) It is for use in the ExpressThaw or ExpressChill mode.
The CustomCool uses a system of air dampers, a fan, a temperature thermistor and a heater. The pan is tightly sealed to prevent temperature fluctuations in the rest of the refrigerator. The controls for this pan are located at the top of the refrigerator with the temperature controls, or on the dispenser with the temperature controls (depending on model).
Empty the pan. Place the Chill / Thaw tray in the pan. Place the items on the tray and close the pan completely. On LCD display models: access by: Home>Options>Refrigerator Options>CustomCool Pan. On non-LCD models: Select the ExpressThaw, ExpressChill, or SelectTemp pad. The display and Set light will come on. Tap the pad until the light appears next to the desired setting.

Targus chill mat not working properly

This problem is being caused by a wire becoming disconnected from the switch in the usb power cord. The easiest way to solve this problem is to open the switch using a flat blade like a knife, and either reconnect the loose wire yourself or to completely remove the switch and connect the wires together completing the circuit and allowing the fan to operate. I hope this helps.
