Question about Canon MP830 All-In-One Printer

Open Question

Why does the #5 black ink go so fast? I have to replace the cartridge every 2 weeks and I am not printing that much out. The other inks last up to a month or more. Is there anyway to make the #5 last longer?

Black not printing

Take black ink cartridge to have it tested. if it is most likely empty, then you will know what you need to do. I had the same problem. I was blown away how fast generic ink cartridges get used up. Now I buy New ink with HP packaging, they last so much longer. There is also a printer ink cleaning test print mode on most printers. Click through the menu on your printer to run this test first. Your black ink cartridge may be dried up, and need cleaned.

New HP F4400 going through ink too fast

It depends what type of things you are printing. If you are printing text, you should be able to print more pages. If you are printing photos, you are using more ink per page. If you use more of one color, you may also run out quicker. You didn't say if you were running out of ink in the black or the color or both cartridges. The black cartridge is rated at 200 pages and the color cartridge is rated at 150 pages. This is based on printing pages that may differ drastically from what you actually print. Here's a web link that explains this in more detail.

Next time you buy a printer, spend a little more and find a printer that has a larger cartridge (check the number of ml (milliliters) in the cartridge). These printers cost a bit more but you will save on the cost of the ink. Cartridges all cost roughly the same regardless of how much ink they have. You can also look at websites that rate each printer cost per black and white and color pages.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

My HP 5610 is printing extremely slow.

Very simple solution: The cartridges still have ink in them but printing is very slow. Remove the cartridges from the printer. Take a wet paper towel and wipe the print head on each one until the ink flows from each head. Usually it is the color cartridge because it is used less than the black one. Once ink is flowing again, reinsert the cartridges into the printer and your normal printing speed will return. This worked for me, no thanks to the "experts" or trouble shooting guides..

My HP printer's light blinks, but it doesn't print.

two things to consider.
1. If the blinking is fast (like more than two blinks per second) then the printer is damaged. Either the main controller board is fried or the carriage/ink controller is damaged.
2. if the blinking is slow ( 1 blink per second) this means that either of your cartridges is busted. remove the black cartridge then close the top cover. If the blinking stops, then the black ink is the culprit. If not, replace the black then remove the other cartridge. THis means that one of your cartridge needs to be replaced.

PRINTING WITH BLACK INK CARTRIDGE ONLY; COLORED CARTRIDGE IS EMPTY.

Apparently, if you hold the "resume button" (the one next to the power button) for about five seconds after you get the message saying to replace the color ink cartridge the machine starts printing. I did this after I went to "maintenance" under "preferences" and changed ink to "black only." At first that alone did not work, but after trying the resume button for 5 secs it worked okay.
