Question about Magic GigaBank (IUSB12HD10) 12 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive

Open Question

Magic GigaBank 8 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive

I have a Magic GigaBank 8 GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive. One of the wires (green) that connects the USB Port connector to the drive case has frayed and broken.

I have had a problem in locating an IO Gear service center. Where can I get this repaired?

Thank you.

My computer wont recognize my external hard drve and the io magic light is blinking

Try connecting the external hard-drive to a different computer. If it still fails, and it is still under warranty, then exercise the warranty to get it replaced.

If the warranty has expired, open the case, and remove the disk-drive, disconnecting it from the USB-to-disk-drive adapter.

Connect the disk-drive as a "slave" disk-drive in some desktop computer, to see if the disk is recognized.
If it is, then the USB-to-disk-drive adapter has failed, and you could go to any computer-store to buy a new external case and adapter, and mount your disk-drive inside the new case, and work with your files.

If the disk-drive is not recognized, check the warranty on the disk-drive itself.

Computer is not recognizing my external hard drive

If the light won't blink, there could be problem with the power source. Do scanning hardisk for errors manually ( take off the hardisk from the case, assemble it on other PC Desktop)

How can I get this device to read on an xbox 360?

Step 1: Connect your hard drive to your PC.
Step 2: Create a FAT32 partition on your hard drive. If you’re using less than 32 GB, you can use Windows via “Control panel > Administrative tools > Computer Management”. If you’re using more than 32 GB, you’ll have to use an external program, e.g. Partition Magic.
Step 3: Load all the content you want from your PC onto the external drive. This should consist of files that can be read on the Xbox hard drive.
Step 4: Remove the external hard drive from your PC. Plug it into your Xbox 360 console through the USB port.
Step 5: Go to the Media menu on your Xbox screen. Select "Portable Device" from the menu. All the readable files saved on the external drive should be available to read on your Xbox 360.
N.B. Xbox's connection with an external drive is read-only. You can only read files that are already on the drive after connecting. You can't save game files or anything else on the Xbox main drive onto the external hard drive. Also, USB storage devices cannot be used for Xbox live marketplace content.

GigaBank 250 GB USB 2.0 External hard Drive - How to open case ?

Remove the cover plate from behind the drive (where the plugs and on/off switch are.) You have to then remove the 2 screws. After that pull on the end with the blue lights to slide the hard drive out. If you have a tower computer, you can permanently install the hard drive and it should work fine as a secondary drive. Just make sure the jumper pins are set to "slave".

I can't remove the HD from the case

It took me a bit to figure it out, so here it is.

1. Pry off the aluminum plate from the back side. Its held on with a rubber cement like glue. Use a thin blade to get under the plate and work it around the perimeter and it will lift off easily.

2. Remove the two screws that are now exposed. The back cover or "end plug" can be pulled off now.

3. Grab the front "plug"and pull and the drive tray will slide out. The Drive is attached with 4 screws to the tray. With the drive screws removed, the drive can be rocked out gently ..lifting the front of the drive up and out of the tray. Now you can get access to the power and data cables so that they can be unplugged. The drive is now free.

I have 2 of these drives and both have poor power connections at the drive enclosure back connector. One finally failed completly, so I removed the drive form the I/O Magic enclosure and directly connected it to an IDE port in my desktop. The hard drive worked perfectly,so I was able to get my data recovered. I plan to cut off the power cord connector and directly wire it to the enclosure, to eliminate the bad connector design.

I bet most all the trouble that people are having with this series external drive is caused by the bad power connection.

Hope this has helped.
