Slows down and stops when trying to cut hardwood

You just do not have a saw that has enough power, the blade is dull or both. Change your blade and push the wood through slower or get a more powerful saw for the hard woods.

How to square up my saw and where I get a copy of the manual

With the saw unplugged manually pull the blade guard fully open and use a strong elastic band/string or otherwise wedge it open to give yourself full access to the blade.

Use an engineers square or at a push a good carpenters combination square measure the angel between the blade and the saw bed. you might find it's slightly off 90 degrees.

Ok, depending on the make of saw there will be a screw thread at the front or rear of the blade on on or close to the pivot points (where the bed tilts to allow different angles to be cut). it usually has a loking nut. Slacken off the locking nut and also slightly slacken off the tilt adjusting screws. You should be able to easily move the bed in relation to the blade. You will see the bed hitting the bottom of the adjusting screw.

Gently turn the screw and keep measureing the angle with the square. Make sure that the squares blade is tight to the saw blade and not touching the small tooth at the edge of the blade. there should be absolutely no gap either on the saw blade or saw bed when its correct.

Holding the screw with one tool getly tightedn up the locking nut ensuring that the main screw does not move.

CHeck everything again and tighten up the tilt mechanism.

Let me know with pictures if you need more exact info for your saw model and I can point out the parts.

I am running a six inch blade width horizontal band saw in a sawmilling application, resawing flitches to thinner boards. Average depth of cut about eight inches. What blade life (swage set steel) should I...

This depends on the type of wood you are cutting. Hardwoods , like oak, will dull the blades faster and require a change after about 3 months if used daily 8x7 but you can get a longer cutting time IF the blades are carbide steel. You can add life to the saw teeth by keeping them clean and free of sap buildup too.
Specially when cutting pine.

How to change blades on an old Ryobi 380mm cut off mitre saw?

most of these saws have a push/lock tab on back side of motor housing that pins the shaft for blade change. if you cant find, use a 4/4 wood block to wedge old blade so you can loosen bolt.. hope this helps....chris

My mitre saw wont lift up into the cutting position it seems stuk

look on the left side of the saw just past the blade there is a knob there pull it out as you hang onto the handle of the saw ,the knob is spring loaded, plus the if you dont hold onto the handle the unit will come up very fast.possible of hurting you or the saw.
