Question about Video Game Consoles & Games

1 Answer

Sons psp does not recognize any games inserted. Have attempted reboot by powering off, and also removing battery. When powered on, screen displays but still not recognizing any games when inserted. When I place my ear to unit, I do not hear any noise such as the disc spinning.

    cleaning did not work.

cleaning the discs has not worked. As indicated, it sounds as though the wheel inside is not spinning the discs after they have been inserted. The PSP does recognize memory cards.

games work on other psp units. was purchased within the past year, not on warranty.

Try cleaning the discs:
http://www.uxcell.com/umd-game-disc-repair-clean-kit-for-sony-psp-clear-p-3043.html

if that doesn't help then the issue is on your psp, but try cleaning the discs first and let me know, I'll post more info after that.

What you could do is to try your games on a friends PSP and see if they work on it, then its definitely a problem on your psp, how old is it, are you on warranty?

  • Ekse Sep 14, 2009

The drive is probably faulty, you could take the psp apart and inspect it and see what happens when you insert a disc, does the motor spin and does it attempt to read it. is the disk stuck inside so that the motor can spin it? and similiar.

PSP won't turn on

You can try a hard reset. Do this hold the power switch in the upward position for over 10 seconds. This will cause the machine to reboot. Leave it alone for a few minutes then try switching it back on. You may have to flick the switch on twice to start her up again. If it still has a hard time try changing the battery for the one in your sons machine. MAKE SURE that all apps etc are closed on the PSP first and do the hard reset BEFORE you remove the battery on BOTH machines. Ensure PSP is OFF before removing battery. It is possible the battery has been overcharged or just given up. If the console operates with the other battery you know you need get a fresh one. Consider getting a high power one for extended life. Let us know how you get on. May have more info for you.

My son that is 5 has a psp and it was working great He was game sharing with his cousin and now under games it dont have the umb option and will not play the games what do i need to do?

Hi,

Try the following procedure to format the unit.
Step 1:

Remove the battery from the left side of the PSP while it is still on. The unit will power down instantly. Wait ten seconds and then replace the battery.

Step 2:
Press both clear shoulder buttons at the top of the PSP and keep them held while the PSP reboots. A "Recovery" mode will be initiated.

Step 3:
Press down on the control pad to locate a "recovery" folder. This will contain all of your PSP content, including games, music, videos and podcasts that are saved on the device. Highlight this folder and press the "X" button to begin reinstalling your content.

Thank you !!

PSP powers up, black screen, no sound

It could be, although if it hasn't been modified in anyway it could be the battery. If your son has used this battery so many times, say a couple months or years, the motherboard or chip could malfunction, causing shortage of power. Try getting a replaceable battery, or if you know another friend or guy that has a son/daughter with an extra battery try using it to save money. If it's not the battery, could be the firmware, or version. Hope these solutions help, let me know if they do or don't.
Good Luck!

How do i reboot my psp?

Have you tried turning on, but then hold the power switch down for around 10-15 seconds or until the power light simply turns off, no flashing. If not, then you should jump on the internet and look for a so-called Pandora Battery and Magic Memory Stick. They will actually install custom firmware on your PSP which you can remove later on, but if you use those, it should unbrick the PSP, so you can use it again.

PSP Will not start

Hi,

What hapenned to all your PSP's is that they 'bricked'. When your PSP is installing an update and you interrupt the process, the data where the PSP's operating system (=firmware) is stored got corrupted (=broken). In very rare cases this can happen when you play a game and something goes wrong due that game. When your PSP is bricked the green lamp is on but the screen stays black.

Now straight to the point..The solutions:

1.If your PSP 'bricked' because you interrupted a system update (Powered off while updating, canceling update..), then you can only help it by re-installing the firmware correctly. NOTE: This is unsupported by Sony and is something you do on your own risk, for a usual PSP user it is a complicated process and i suggest you should let someone with experience do it. If you still want to attempt it, for example here's a tutorial for making a 'pandora battery' : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKFnuCfTPZo
To find more information about this subject you could seach on google for tags like 'psp pandora mod custom firmware jigkick'

2. If your PSP suddenly doesn't start up after or while you played a game, then you have a chance that you can recover your PSP without too much hassle. Simply let your battery run empty. After it's empty, remove the battery and let your PSP 'rest' a day without battery. After that, reinsert the battery, first fully charge it, and THEN start your PSP up (after your battery is fully recharged). If you have luck you might have your PSP working again.

3. Contact Sony and explain the situation. Explain that you did nothing wrong. If your PSP is still under warranty they should help you..

Good luck and if i helped you please leave feedback! Thanks

PSP console not working

you failed to state if your son was doing the update via UMD disc. im inferring so, so if the battery died while it was updating, your sons PSP is bricked. you need a Pandora battery + magic memory stick. you can find them on ebay, amazon, anywhere. also if you ask around where you live some people may do it locally.
