Electric water heater stopped working

The unit doesn't like to drain without air coming in on top of water, so flushing with pressure applied is the preferred way. Be careful, see if you have power coming into unit. Turn off power and open the connection connection plate I would suspect that if the breaker is supplying power, sometime I have found that the connections are not properly made.. . If you a timer to limit operational hours take it out and go directly to romex from breaker panel.I f water starts hot and then go cool very quickly the bottom heating element and or thermostat is not working. Remove lower element cover and with power off check element resistance you can compare upper and lower element readings. From experience I never repair water heaters: time and material is more than new unit. You will need to buy element socket heating element(s) and or thermostat(s). In the end you still and old water heater.

Hatco c-9 booster heater won't heat, 1 amp fuse keeps blowing

that is in the control cicut the contactor might be bad and taking out cntrl fuse.unhook contactor control voltage by unplugging from contactor tape off the two wires put new fuse in turn on power if fuse does not blow replace contactor.if it does blow you will have to isolate the next thing in the control circut maybe the light.you can buy resetable 1amp circut breakers at grainger for test purposes.sometimes on people I know I will wire in those breakers for them no more buying fuses.

How do i cutoff power from hot water heater

typically the power to your water heater would be fed by a circuit breaker in the power panel in your house. water heaters (electric) consume a lot of power and therefor need their own circuit. If your circut box isn't labeled what you need to do is first turn the water heater up so that you can tell that it runing, you can't see this but if you listen closely you should be able to hear it, get someone to help you with this and cut off the power (trip breaker) till you find the one that stops the sound. If you have a volt meter you could take the cover off the power box (where you water heater is hooked in) and put the meter across the black and whiter wire so you see a reading of 110-130 volts. again have someone help you and cut the breakers one by one till the meter drops to 0 volts (or very close to it) when it does, make sure to label the breaker so you know next time.

We just installed a brand new Reliance electric water heater and there is no hot water or power.....tried the breaker.....help! Please!

what knowledge of electricity do you have? a hot water heater requires a 2 pole feed meaning you need a 3 wire 30 amp rated wire and it has to be on a 2 pole 30 amp breaker. first off do you have that currently installed?

Our electric water heater doesn't work.

make sure it is wired correctly, check circuit breaker, check breaker built on to element. If all fails, and it is determined your not getting power to it, you may need a electrician. Be careful. good luck.

No hot water

If you checked the reset, then the next thing to check would be the breaker in your breaker box. If that doesnt work start checking the elements. The reset, the thermostat and the elements are pretty much all that can go wrong with an electric water heater, short of a leaky tank or faulty t&p valve. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem with the Stiebel Eltron Tempura 24. Right side unit worked (with blinking LED), but the display and left side (including LED) did not work.

This is CRITICAL. Do not take the cover off unless you have turned off circuit breakers at the circuit breaker panel AND tested that there is no power. There is a lot of voltage/ampreage here and it could be life threatening if you get shocked. Call an electrician (or a plumber) if you don't know what you are doing.

My problem was solved by resetting the safety thermal cutout switch on top of the non working unit (red single press thermistor). See this manual http://www.stiebel-eltron-usa.com/pdf/install_tempra.pdf page 8.

If you reset the water heater the first time you were without, Then odds are it is the water heater. probably an element went back. If the power off check for continuity.
