Hi,
Laptop battery notification is not accurate but approximate. The remaining battery usage is calculated approximately and then notified to the user. If your battery's life is more than a year, then the calculation goes on decreasing. It cannot be rectified unless you go for a new battery. But still you can tweak the battery life by,
1. Switch of the wireless adaptor when not in use.
2. Decrease the screen brightness.
3. Configure your power plan in control panel to minimal power usage mode while on battery.
4. The notification limit for battery low can be custom configured in the control panel. set it to 30 % and this will prevent your laptop to dye without power as your battery power drains faster below 31%
I hope this is helpful to understand the logic behind this.

Usually this means the battery is starting to fail. The battery is giving the computer incorrect information which is what you are seeing. Usually this will get progressivly worse until it wont work at all. I see many batteries get to the point where they will go from 0% charged to 100% in a few minutes, but they dont hold more than a minute charge. Batteries fail often unfortunately.

Acer Aspire 4830T battery behaving vaguely.

Are you using the provided charger, or are you using an after market "Universal" charger?
If you're using a universal charger, it could be charging the battery too hot and the computer just doesn't understand why the battery is putting out more than the system is expecting.
It could also be that the battery is wrong type. The voltage may be the correct, however the Ah may be too high. This being the case, the computer doesn't understand what why the it's getting a higher Ah reading than it's expecting. The system can not reason that that if it detects more amp-hours than the it should have that it has that much more charge time. It just sees "ERROR" and since you're dealing with a system function that is designed to prevent loss of data the default action is to shut down to prevent loss of data.
You may be able to fix by resetting the Power Management Options. Unfortunately, with out doing test on the machine, it is impossible to tell. I could be software or hardware. If nothing else works, try replacing the battery again.

Do you still have the old battery. If so charge it, and see if it charges properly. If so then you have a bad battery.

Unplug the computer, hold the power button down until the laptop shuts down, then remove the battery. Plug in the charger, and try powering up. If all is okay, shut it back down, unplug it, and reinstall the battery. Then, plug it in and let it fully charge. Restart it, plugged in and with the battery installed. Good luck.

My Acer Laptop battery shuts down completely at 40 - 30

Go to Power Options --> On the plan you are using select change plan settings --> Change advanced power settings --> Scroll down till you reach battery and click the + next to it to expand the settings --> Where it says Critical battery level and Critical battery action (on battery) make sure that the level is at 5% and the action is to hibernate. If it's set to do nothing, it will keep running until it's out of battery and completely shut off. Plugging the AC adapter would give it more power. If that isn't the problem, check your battery's connection and consider replacing the battery.

I have an Aspire 7736Z-4809 and it seems that the battery isn't working. If I unplug the power strip the computer shuts off. Is this the battery or the settings or the plug? Any thoughts?

Unplug the laptop then remove the battery. Reseat the battery, plug the laptop back in. Then restart your laptop. Give it 5-10min to allow for a small charge and then remove your charger again. If the laptop shuts off immediately it is quite likely that your battery has failed. This is quite common for batteries. If you're under warranty please contact the manufacturer. Else you will likely find a cheaper battery solution on ebay. -Ravi Shanghavi

Acer aspire 2920z is automatically shutdown only message appear warning critical battery low and then shutdown

Sounds like your battery is faulty and not charging. Try replacing the battery or just use the mains lead with the battery removed. If this keeps happening replace the system board

Acer Aspire battery shutting off with no warning.

Karen,
I am not familiar with this particular model but deal daily with this same issue on the Lenovo Thinkpads...it is the battery. They can just go bad. Had one yesterday that was fine the day before, now won't hold a charge. It was also less than two years old. They seem to have a shelf life. I would check with ACER to make sure they agree, then order a new battery.

To extend battery life, you need to use the battery up on a regular basis, then recharge all the way. Leaving it plugged in all the time with the battery in shortens battery life.

Maybe it's your power supply, I suggest you get a voltmeter and check the voltage on the power supply.

Good luck
