Your hard drive either has defects or it has a hidden partition on it that contains backups. Try contacting support for your laptop or the store you bought it from.
You need to back up your important information right away, create the Sony Recovery disks (if you haven't already), and replace the hard drive.
You will need the recovery disks place the OS and other software that came on the sony, on the new hard drive. This installation will not have any update, it will "look" like it did when you first opened the box. Any software/hardware you have added will have to be re-installed.
By backing up your important data, you can then copy this data back to the new hard drive.
Hello there,
First of all, i will say you should try another USB cable in connecting the hard drive to your computer. Or you try to connect it to another computer. This time, ensure you try to use a 7.0 USB cable.
Sometimes the cable might be bad and will just connect but not read you hard drive. It happened to a modem of mine. Until i changed the USB cable was when the computer was able to read the modem.
Hope the hard drive did not fall or hit any hard object.
Hope this helped.
Goodluck

Check this out: the auto trans has a servo pack in it, this controls the trans at stop to kick out of gear and not try to pust or continue to drive forward. This is hard to explain to you i have done this procedure many times, the servo pack controls the trans to kick up and down between gears and when you come to a stop it also controls the trans that you are at idle, stand still, if the car wants to move forward that is most likely the problem. This is a very hard part to replace, if you haven't done somthing like this before, take it to a trans shop, not a general mechanic shop.
Hi there!
Have you tried using another USB cable? If you haven't then try it first and if that doesn't work, it is possible that your external HDD is busted.
Hope this helps.
Use this file recovery program: http://www.asoftech.com/adr/ You can find it in magazines or on a internet... It is a simple, fast program which thorough scan the computer, which allows you to recover lost files Do not use the machines to save more files before you have recovered or is likely to override the old and losing it all ....
If you haven`t already done it open the case up carefully and use a blowdryer on warm and low to thoroughly dry the insides out, before plugging it in or you could permenently damage both it and your computer.
If you get the same message from the diagnostic programs you have used then it would seem pretty clear cut that the hard drive is dying or is dead.
If you can still get at it then do so and get anything you want to keep off there before it goes completely. from there it is up to is you just want to put a new hard drive in which is quite simple or bit the bullet if its that old and get a newer one
