If you are familiar with your scanner's manufacturers application, open the HP software, go to the "Scan images" feature and click "Scan" or "Acquire" (I have had various HP scanners in the past, each app is a bit different).

It will prompt you to "Preview" or "Scan" in a particular setting (i.e. Color, Black and White, Photo, etc). Depending on how clear you want the document, I would suggest just picking "Black and White" (or "Grayscale" on some programs). The scanner will "preview" and a "view" of your document will appear with a dotted line-box around it. Adjust the box to the size of your document and click "Finish".

The document will then be scanned normally (a bit slower than the preview scan) and then saved to a pre-designated folder (usually called "My Scans" or "HP Scans". You should be able to change this setting (look in Options or Properties) to save wherever is most convenient for you, like the Desktop.

Once the file is scanned, it will be in either .jpeg or .bmp format (again, per the preferences set up in the HP software) and ready to be sent. If the program doesn't give you the option of naming the file right away, you will still be able to find it in the folder you chose with a generic filename, like "IMG0001.jpg" or "Scan001.bmp", etc.

Open your email account, compose your message, and click "Attach Files". Browse until you find the scanned image, highlight it and click ok. Click "attach" and allow the picture to upload to the server, and then click "send". Voila! If you are using a web-based email (like Hotmail or Gmail), you will have a limit to the size of the file to be sent, but you should be fine. If you have multiple pages to be scanned and sent, you can browse to each file, attach it in the same manner, and send (i.e., yahoo allows 6 files to be attached to an email). If you are using Outlook or Outlook Express, the process is the same.

Once you have sent, be sure and check the "Sent" folder of your email, you should see your email (with attachment).

Whew! I hope some of this info helps!

If you need further assistance, please feel free to post a comment to this thread, and I will be happy to assist you!

PS -- For most purposes, .jpg, .jpeg, .bmp, or .gif file-types are completely acceptable. If you are required to send as a "pdf" file, or as a ".doc" (Microsoft Word), DEFINITELY respond, as this requires a few more steps!

    Hope this helps!!

Multi-function printers cannot scan and then e-mail the scanned image. They can scan and then fax a document.
You need to scan the document, then save the scanned image, open your e-mail program and create the e-mail then attach the image file (file attachment) to the e-mail before you send the e-mail.

How do i scan a document so i can email it?

You need equipment (scanner, copier/scanner/printer, etc... to scan your document. The software will ask you where you want to store/save to a location it on your computer. Then go to your e-mail client and click on new mail. After you fill out "to: i.e. recepient e-mail address", "regarding" etc. Find the tab for "attachment", Click,on attachement tab and locate the scanned document on your PC you wish to attach with the new mail to be send to the recepient.(The attachement will take quite a while depending on the document size). Then click send!!!

Hope it helps.

When i scan a document to my mail it comes through to my e-mail address but with the wrong -mail address

Hello,

If the mail address is wrong on the document you are scanning, you have two options. Correct the mailing address on the document then rescan it or use a program like photo shop to change the address on the image.

I hope this helps.

How can I scan to email. I can scan and reprint plus I can scan to memory card

To use this feature in Windows, a destination must be programmed in the scan setup before scanning to a destination. See Set up the product Scan To button.

Load the originals that are to be scanned face-up in the automatic document feeder (ADF) input tray, with the top of the document forward, and adjust the media guides.

Lift the flatbed scanner lid and load the original that is to be scanned face-down on the flatbed scanner with the top, left corner of the document located in the lower-right corner of the glass. Gently close the lid.

On the product control panel, press Scan To.
Use the arrow buttons to select a file destination.
Press Start Scan or OK to scan the document to a file.

Scanning to e-mail is supported by any e-mail program that supports the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) protocol. Many versions of popular e-mail programs seem to be MAPI-compliant. See the support information for your e-mail program to determine whether or not it is MAPI-compliant.

You can create a ZIP file with all your scanned documents and e-mail the ZIP file instead. Scan your documents, select all the scanned images at once. Right click and select "compress and e-mail"

How does the 1210 scanner work with Windows 7? I have downloaded the driver for the printer and it works ok, but I cannot use the software for the printer. The copier and the scanner work, but i cannot...

You will have to do a two step process to send a scanned document or image by email; the scan to e-mail button won't work. Scan using either Windows Fax and Scan or Paint. Save your file. Then start (Compose/Write) an e-mail to the person you need to send the document. Click Attach and browse to the location where the scan was saved. The default folder is C:/Users/<user_name>/My Documents/Scanned Documents . Click OK after selecting that image. Finish writing your e-mail and send it.

If you'd like to automatically open the e-mail program, browse to the folder where you saved the fax from Computer (Start button) and right click on the image. Choose Send to Mail Recipient. The new mail compose window should open.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(a program like PaperPort may let you send to e-mail recipient without the extra step; however I'm not sure of the details.)
