I bet it's not heating anything up either. The magnetron has failed and needs to be replaced. You can go to this website and find the one you need and order it: http://www.repairclinic.com/Kenmore-Microwave-Parts?s=b6a6c255

It's a simple process to replace a magnetron, when you take the cover off, on the right side of the oven you will see the magnetron...it will look just like the parts pictured on the website I gave you.

Let me know how it went for you, I can go a little more in-depth if necessary.

LOUD BUZZING NOISE AND THE ANSWER I RECEIVED WAS FOR A DIFFERENT MODEL. CAN I FIX IT MYSELF?

If the loud buzzing noise is present when cooking food, the magnetron is the likely cause, some models are louder than others. But if the buzzing noise is there without the microwave running it should be checked. No! this something that should be checked by a professional for safety.

I bought a Sharp Carousel 1100 watt microwave about 8 months ago but now it makes a louder noise when it's on and it doesn't heat. Can I easily fix this myself or is this now trash?

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron.

Since it's less than a year old, it's fully under warranty and Sharp will fix it free.

You can contact Sharp at 1-800-BE-SHARP (1-800-237-4277) or visit them online to get it fixed.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Timer going but no heat less than a year old

To allow us to help you effectively (at no charge), please post a NEW problem to FixYa, and please include your brand name and the full model number from the tag in or on the unit, your exact symptoms, as well as the answers to these questions:

- When you try to microwave are the inside light, internal cooling fan and turntable all working?

- Is there any unusual noise or is it louder or quieter than normal?

(A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.)

We have a sound clip here of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are working.

Buzzing (a little bit louder than normal humm), but no popping

WHEN THERE IS A BUZZING NOISE IT MEANS THAT ONE OF THE INTERNAL COMPONENT HAS FAILED .RANGING FROM A SMALL DIODE TO LARGE PARTS LIKE
THE MAGNETRON OR TRANSFORMER OR CAPACITOR. IF IT IS 10 YRS,OLD YOUR BETTER
OFF GETTING A NEW ONE .BECAUSE YOU COULD INVEST MONEY IN THIS ONE AND HAVE SOMETHING ELSE GO TWO DAYS FOR NOW.WITH A NEW ONE YOU ALSO END UP WITH THE NEW WARRANTY. HOPE I HELPED. KEN62 GOOD DAY!
