Question about EliteGroup ECS A535 Notebook

LCD Screen dims out regularly

I've had this laptop for a couple of years and am quite fond of it - even though I have a newer much-more powerful laptop. It started having an issue with the LCD screen a couple of months ago where it would dim out right after booting up. Sometimes, if I reboot or simply log out and log back on, it would restore video for a short period of time and dim out again. After doing a significant amount of research, I came to the conclusion that perhaps the LCD inverter has gone bad. Is this a reasonable conclusion? Looking for this part is quite a chore, and have been told by a number of places that the laptop is too old and the part is no longer available. I also learned that there are two OEM replacement manufacturers of the LCD screen itself - one by Quanta (part # QD141X1LH03) and another by Chei Mei (part # N141XB-L03) - but these parts exceed what I think is reasonable to repair this oldster and I'm waffling on going for it or simply removing the new HD I popped in this thing a year ago and tossing the laptop.

Any opinions or suggestions - please reply within a few days as I will make a decision one way or another soon...

Thanks!

You might want to do a quick check on ebay and see if anyone has something for sale there that you could use. Also, you might want to check to make sure that the LCD cables are firmly seated in their connectors. Reseating them may sometimes help with a problem like this. Also, the lid switch may be loose, broken or going bad. The next time you loose the display, you might try manually operating that switch, just to see what happens.

It is for sure that a damage is done on the LCD and it needs to be checked on HOW THIS HAD HAPPENED.
It seems that if the laptop was not shut but the LCD display door was made to stay OPEN while you were driving then the motion/vibration could have damaged the LCD or the linking wires to the LCD panel. Check carefully on the hinges of the laptop and see if there is any cracks. Also if there is display on an external monitor then the PC is working fine . You can open the laptop and ccheck if any connector of the LCD panel is loose. If no the LCD is a suspect and You must take an opinion from HP. Claim for warranty if the time limit is within.

why not buy a newer LT
or just run the external screen and be happy

I guess you have not read the user guide yet?

mine is Fn+f4, but on a relic compaq, gee buy the book,
or google search for it for weeks,

next time post to HP< there is no COMPAQ for years.
hp owns it. totally

The screen is not turning on even though the rest of the laptop is working. how do i fix this?

You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Acer 6920 LCD Screen damaged

The screen is impossible to repair if its cracked. Getting a new LCD isn't that expensive but only if you know how to replace it. Getting one from manufacturer is around 130. but there is an ebay link on the bottom you can get one for 70 or so with shipping.

This link shows you how to replace a LCD screen. even tho its not your model but is very close to how yours look.

SCREEN SUDDENLY WENT DIM

One of 2 things happened....
1) You Blew the Power Inverter... The Power inverter is a thin rectangular circuit board that plugs into the display panel cable and also powers the LCD Bulb.. If This Part Fails - You Lose Light to the Display even though the display will still be on and viewable against a bright light....

2) The LCD Bulb is Faulty... When the LCD Bulb Fails it will typically give pre-warning signs- though not always.... It will give signs like the whole screen has a light orange or pinkish tone to it, but eventually it will blow and no light at all to the Display Panel....

Both Of These Are Repairable....

The Power Inverter Can Be Purchased Off of Ebay, For Around $15 to $30

The LCD Bulb Itself is also Replaceable.. Though It is a Job Only to Be Performed By An Experienced Laptop Tech... Bulbs as well can be bought off of ebay for a few bucks..
