Ice Jam in Chute - Whirlpool IDI SxS

I wanted to get some feedback on what could be causing the freezing in my ice chute and ice bucket on my Whirlpool In Door Ice SxS.

The unit was recently purchased and has frozen up already. The ice bucket appears to have ice around the lower chamber and some frost build up in the chute. Ice bucket does not look like my old IDI refigerator bucket.

Re: Ice Jam in Chute - Whirlpool IDI SxS

First check would be to see if the flapper door is closing all the way in the dispenser area. best way is to remove the ice bucket and shine a flashlight from the front up into the disp door area and look for light around the door from inside the chute.

another check would be to make sure the door delay mechanism is connected an not allowing the dispenser door to close to fast trapping a cubes in the door and causing an air leak in the chute..

Keep in mind if you use alot of crushed ice frost build up is faster than with just cubed.

There may be ice forming in the water chute causing water to spill out of the chute and pour onto the ice in the bucket. Sometimes the water valve has a slow drip or is slow to shut off. the valve may need replacing. I doubt it is the icemaker but it could be.

The ice does not dispense from the chute. The chute freezes up and the ice can no longer travel down the chute and out the dispenser. Can this be fixed?

Ice in bucket freezes into a lump, mechanism freezes

it sounds like the ice chute door is stuck open. on this model it can slip off the "hinge pin" or the plastic that holds the pin can break. if the flap is broken it is replacable. the pin can be put back in. if the plastic that holds the pin is broken, you need to replace the whole door. expect to wait 6-8 weeks for a new door, sooner if lucky. cost is $400 +++ more for stainless.I hope the pin fell out. hope this helps

Whirlpool side by side ice maker freezes up. can't get ice out of

Can you give more details?
If the ice chute is frosting up, chute door is not sealing, air , with moisture, is getting in and freezing. An ice cube getting trapped by the door will cause this also. Either case, replace door and delay mechanism.

Bottom of ice maker/dispenser frosting over

Open the freezer door and look down the ice chute while you shine a flashlite up the dispenser cute from the outside. If you see light around the chute door, it needs to be replaced or something is wrong with the mechanism. The problem you describe is almost always air leakage around that flap.
Post back if you need more help.
