Follow these steps and check if help to resolve the issue:

1. First clean the lens of the DVD Drive with a lens cleaner.

2. Try with different DVD disk. If the Drive is able to read different disk then check for any update or firmware update for the DVD drive.

3. Try uninstalling the DVD drive from the Device manager. CD/DVD Drivers are Operating System generic Drivers; it will be installed with the Operating System. You may reinstall the CD/DVD Driver from the Device Manager. Please go to 'Device Manager' and right click on the 'CD/DVD' Drive icon and select 'uninstall' and restart the Computer. When the Computer restarts, the Operating System will install the default CD/DVD Drivers to resolve the issue.

4. Try performing System Restore to restore the Computer when it was working normally.

5. Reinstall the Operating System to determine whether the issue is Hardware related or Software related.

6. If the issue persists after installing the Operating System then the Computer/DVD drive requires service.

Try using a good quality DVD cleaner first. The lens for cd/dvd are different so one may work if the other is dirty. If cleaning does not work then the dvd lens may be out of alignment or broke. With today's prices it is cheaper to replace the drive $30-40 than try to repair it. Hope this helps.

My dell studio 1435 laptop is not opening its cd drive, i cannot insert cd/dvd on it. thanks!

Hello. Find a paper clip. Bend it open so it is flat and straight. On your CD Drive you will see a little hole that can fit the paper clip. Fit the paperclip in the hole and push. This will manually eject your CDRom Drive. Thanks for using FixYa!

I have dell studio-15 and lately the CD/DVD drive continously ejects any CD/DVD without reading it. It cannot be read. I cannot write onto any CD/DVD either.

1. Try to boot to your computer using the Operating system disk see if the OS disk ejects try step 2

2. Try to go to the BIOS by tapping F2 upon boot see if the cd/dvd drive ejects

3. The reason for this if the problem is reoccuring outside of windows then the problem is mechanical and cd/dvd drive needs to be replaced

4. Else we need to do Operating System Reinstall or format the hard drive

I have a dell studio 1558 laptop..it is not reading any dvd.

The optical unit uses 2 separate lasers to read the cd and dvd disks. In your case the laser for the dvd has failed.
This is unfixable, the entire optical unit will have to be replaced - it will cost you about $100 at a repair shop.

I have Dell studio 1435 ( out of warranty ), its dvd writer is not working properly, some dvds are not readable even the windows dik which i got with it.

the lens in the dvd drive has lost its potential to read the dvd's... still you will be able to read cd's without any problem... replacing the entire dvd header unit will fix the problem... but its really gonna cost more... i suggest you to buy an external dvd writer which can be plugged into the usb slot...

I have dell studio and lately the CD/DVD drive continously ejects any CD/DVD i slot in. it also makes a clicking noise! help!

This could be a hardware related or a driver related problem. Try to get the Original driver once again installed, and if that doesnt work then give the cd\dvd for a repair. Good Luck

your ODD, Optical Disc Driver, have optic component for read your disc. May be your optic broken. Buy new one. Make sure first, you rent some DVD movies, and play to your ODD. And open some softwares, like a PowerDVD.
