Question about Sanyo PLC XU48 Multimedia Projector

Thought the bulb was bad, replaced and still no light.

The orginal problem had the picture gradually getting dimmer and dimmer. I assumed the bulb was bad. Replaced the bulb and I still get no light from the bulb. The fan runs and the machine seems to power up fine just no light.
Could I have gotten a bad bulb?
Is there a way to test?

Where did you get the lamp from? if you got it from a reputable dealer, then i'd say the ballast is bad and needs replacing. if you got it from "bob's bulbs", then it may be the lamp. but the only way to test it is to put it in a known good projector.

Check the owner's manual. If you no longer have the owner's manual, this could be due to a bad/weak projector bulb. Many projection TVs shut off when the bulb gets old and can no longer provide a good picture. Owners often don't notice the bulb getting bad because it so gradually gets dim.

Humming and failure to dim

Bad dimmer. Probably not using a high enough watt rated switch. Add up the total of all bulbs to be dimmed and get appropriately rated dimmer. 8x60 watt bulbs=480 watts. Make sure dimmer is rated high enough.

Your remote control I would assume includes a dimmer for the light. CFL bulbs are not compatible with dimmers. If it has a dimmer, you must use incandescent bulbs.

Its the dimmer switch. The hot wire at the dimmer switch is Yellow. Then low beam is tan, and high beam is light green . be sure the yellow wire has 12v. then check the other wires, if no voltage, then connect yellow to the tan or lt green, if lights work, then the dimmer switch is bad.

How do I change the bulbs in the instrument panel?

I thought I had that problem on an 02 outback, so I googled and looked on youtube and found some folks who had pictures and videos of themselves pulling the radio and instrument cluster out so they could replace the bulbs. I even bought new bulbs. Then I discovered the cluster light dimmer switch on the turn signal stem and I just turned them on! So I know you can find this on youtube and a google search, so look there.

Hi, I have a leviton slide dimmer controlling 4 pot lights with gu10 bulbs. There is also 6 receptacles on this 15 amp circuit. I had a regular 2 pole switch on there, with no problems. When I converted...

You said they are 50 watt GU10's, so I would assume they are 120V halogens, and you must simply have gotten a bad dimmer. But if these GU10's are 50 watt equivalent (LED's or CFL's) then the bulbs will have their own transformers built into them, and would be incompatible with a dimmer switch. It also might be the case that you have low voltage halogens which would use a transformer, shared or individual, and these would also be incompatible with a dimmer. (I don't know offhand if GU10's are available with low voltage halogens.)

Humming inside the switch

Is it connected to a fan motor also? - most dimmers are for lights only - if there is a ceiling fan connected you may experience a humming sound from the dimmer
