Beside the filters in the back, no they don't require much. After 8 years of installing and servicing these units, I haven't found a unit yet that was running faulty due to lack of service. Would recommend a cleaning of the burners about every 3-5 years. Rinnai recommends cleaning the unit with compressed air through the front grate annually...but that doesn't require disassembly

Testimonial: "Thank You, I have installed 2 Rinnai 1004FA furnaces but haven't had them long enough to require service. Both heat 1000 sq ft houses in the NE."

Unfortunately, Rinnai only sells repair parts through their authorized dealers. Contact the dealer you purchased it from. If you are not the original owner of the home/heater, you can go to Rinnai's website and search for a dealer near you. http://www.rinnai.us/direct-vent-wall-furnaces/

Check for error code and check filters are not blocked and you have correct pressures. Make sure flue is not blocked

The furnace shuts itself off.

Is it giving you any error codes? Can you give us any more details like how do you get it started or is there a noise associated with the failure?

How to test a used Rinnai 1004 furnace?

The fitting on the back of the unit is 1/2" MPT. Wouldn't suggest messing with it if you are not familiar with propane or natural gas. Make sure the unit is set up for LP if you are going to use a portable supply tank. These units are very reliable. Check all fittings with a diluted soap and water solution before turning on the unit. If it is not connected to it's venting system, you would have a forced induction source of ignition if you had a leak in your piping. These units should only be installed by a licensed plumber or gas fitter, one simple error could allow carbon monoxide (CO) into your house

Error 11 code

If the gas lines are moving or vibrating regularly, especially as they get older there is a possibility of fracture, so I would get them tethered properly. if no obvious vibration or risk of movement then they are probably fine if you are sure there are no leaks other than that i just found this manual earlier on for another user: - hopefully it can answer your questions http://www.rinnai.us/Rinnai.aspx/FileLibrary.aspx/DealerResources.aspx/DocumentsLibrary.aspx/WallFurnacesDirectVentMainHeatSource.aspx/RHFE1004FA.aspx/GeneralInformation.aspx/456RHFE1004FAManual32003.pdf.aspx Hope this helps :)
