Question about Brother HL 1240 Printer

1 Answer

I am trying to install a new drum DR-400 in my brother HL-1240. I think I followed the directions correctly, but the yellow need new drum light is still on on the printer. I turned the printer off and on again several times but it still won't work. Can you give me detailed directions on how to install the drum??

The install is probably correct, you just need to open the door and press the go button til all lights flash to reset the drum counter.

I needed to print a page off my laptop and put the usb from the HL-1240 Laser Brother printer and it refuses to print, even though it is set as the default printer. Does the printer have to plugged into...

Hello,

When you plug the printer in to your computer it will either install automatically (using the HL-1435 drivers) or if it is already installed it should come online.

If the printer is not doing this then you need to look on the printer to see if any of the LED lights are on or flashing. The toner cartridge might be empty or you might need to replace the drum unit.

Check the lights and you can see what they each mean on the Brother website using the link below.

Thanks,

I've installed a new drum AND a new toner cartridge. have followed all directions to reset the drum and the light still flashes and I can't print, this is for a brother HL-5250DN printer

Try this....
1: Turn off power and remove toner/drum
2: Tape the little spring loaded lever just inside the printer on the upper left hand side in the *DOWN* position! Do not replace drum yet and...
3: Turn power on to printer and let it cycle. Status/Toner lights will come on as usual.
4: Turn off printer, remove tape from lever, replace drum and turn back on.

HL-1240, the alarm light is on, what would be the reasons?

the first alarm light (at the very top) indicate the toner life ends the second light(middle) indicate the drum life ends and the third is for paper jam or print error

Brothers HL 1240 Alarm light on

Pull the drum out the front door, remove the toner cartridge and check for any paper and remove it.

Make sure there is toner in the toner cartridge. Look at the lights on the printer. Look at the labels beside them. The label "Toner" will have two lines going to two lights. If those two lights are on when you try to print, you are out of toner. But a now toner and install it in the drum. Install the drum back into the printer.

If not, look at the drum. At the rear top is an opening across the whole drum. Look inside it, you will see a metal grid. That grid must be clean or it will cause small sparks. These sparks will cause a false toner empty error. Buy a can of compressed air from Best Buy (or wherever). Use this compressed air to blow clean the grid. Move the small blue tab at one side of the opening ti the other side and back again. Reinstall the drum and try printing again.

If neither of those help, write back and let me know what lights stay on when the printer stops.

Brother HL-5240 drum light flashing

Normally clearing the drum count the machine has to be on open front cover as if to change the drum press and hold the button in for about 10 second then release and shut the door. This should reset the count if not please get back to me and I'll check the service manual to see if anything in that.

Thanks J
